Contract Hours: 39 per week
Salary Scale Range: €62,653 – €73,771
Annual Leave: 29 days
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Speech and Language Therapist to lead and deliver a high-quality service for children and young people aged 0–18 years with visual impairment and, in some cases, additional needs.
This is a senior, impactful role combining clinical expertise, leadership, and service development. You will play a key part in shaping innovative, accessible, and evidence-based services, while collaborating with other professionals across our multidisciplinary teams, to provide holistic care for the people we support.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Practice & Service Delivery
- Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and intervention for children and young people (0–18 years), including those with visual impairment and complex needs
- Develop and implement individualised, evidence-based intervention plans
- Manage a complex caseload, ensuring high standards of clinical care and documentation
- Produce high-quality reports in line with Assessment of Need and other statutory processes
- Deliver both individual and group interventions in a skilled and flexible manner
Planning, Organisation & Service Development
- Lead goal-setting processes in partnership with the people we support, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Monitor, evaluate, and report on service delivery outcomes and performance metrics
- Contribute to strategic planning, policy development, and future service design with the Clinical Lead
- Demonstrate innovation in optimising resources and enhancing service delivery
- Identify and develop new areas of clinical expertise in response to service needs
Leadership & Team Development
- Provide line management and clinical supervision to Speech and Language Therapists, students, and volunteers
- Support staff through mentoring, coaching, and formal development planning
- Promote a culture of reflective practice, continuous learning, and professional excellence
- Contribute to the education and training of students and colleagues across disciplines
Collaboration & Interdisciplinary Working
- Work collaboratively with Children’s Disability Network Teams (CDNT), primary care services, education providers, and other stakeholders
- Actively participate in interdisciplinary team planning, service delivery, and evaluation
- Deliver training and support to parents, carers, educators, and other professionals
- Contribute to person-centred planning and holistic care approaches
Governance, Quality & Professional Standards
- Ensure all clinical work adheres to professional, ethical, and legislative standards (including IASLT and CORU requirements)
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records and data systems
- Contribute to quality assurance, audit, and service evaluation initiatives
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and operational guidelines
- Stay informed of current research and integrate evidence-based practice into service delivery
Decision-Making & Professional Judgement
- Apply sound clinical and administrative judgement in all aspects of work
- Make transparent, well-reasoned decisions, involving others where appropriate
- Recognise when to escalate or seek additional input on complex issues
- Consider ethical, professional, and safety implications in all decision-making
Relationship Building & Communication
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with the people we support, families, and stakeholders
- Clear and effective communication. Demonstrate strong listening skills and a compassionate, inclusive approach
- Advocate for the needs of the people we support, influencing positive outcomes
About You
Essential
- Recognised qualification in Speech and Language Therapy
- Registration with CORU (or eligibility for registration)
- Significant post-qualification experience, including complex caseloads
- Demonstrated experience in supervision, leadership, or service development
- Strong organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to family-centred, inclusive, and evidence-based practice
Desirable
- Experience working people with a visual impairment
- Experience in a community, disability, or non-profit setting
- Training or experience in specialist areas (e.g. AAC, feeding, autism, sensory needs)
- Involvement in research, audit, or quality improvement initiatives
Other Requirements:
- Eligible to work in Ireland
- Reference checks and Garda Vetting
