Essential Qualifications and Skills

Candidates must:

  • Have the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies to carry out the role to a high standard;

  • Be capable and competent of fulfilling the role to a high standard;

  • Have obtained at least Grade O6 (formerly D3) in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate Examination (higher, ordinary, applied or vocational programmes) or equivalent, or have passed an examination at the appropriate level within the QQI qualifications framework which can be assessed as being of a comparable to Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent or higher, or have appropriate relevant experience which encompasses equivalent skills and expertise.

Desirable Qualifications and Skills
  • Prior experience of IT system implementations or upgrades.

  • Formal accountancy training.

  • Experience of training staff including development of training materials.

  • Highly developed people, presentation, communication and teamwork skills.

  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to multitask effectively.

  • Project Management experience.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Good working experience of computer-based systems.

Overview of the Role

The successful post holder will be responsible for managing, maintaining and developing the Financial Systems in operation within the Finance Department of the University (Currently Agresso and Core Pay).

Duties
  • Lead the systems development of the financial accounting systems (currently Unit 4 Agresso and Core Pay).

  • Work with the IT Department and the Finance end users to ensure the financial systems are both maintained and continually improved.

  • Independently triage and resolve system support issues.

  • Provide support to end users to troubleshoot system problems and solve issues.

  • Coordination of Agresso projects including functionality optimisation and system upgrades.

  • Act as link between the Finance Department with the IT Department and the software providers.

  • Work with users to develop the systems including creating new reports, dashboards etc. to improve the user experience.

  • To carry out required month-end procedures on the systems.

  • To train end users in the operation of the system as required.

  • Coordinate and participate in user acceptance testing for system upgrades and updates.

  • Work with the IT Dept and existing Finance users to ensure new users are set up and maintained appropriately in accordance with segregation of duty principles.

  • Ensure data quality within the system is upheld consistently.

  • To formally document system-related policies and procedures.

  • To ensure compliance with all internal financial control checks applicable to the area and to liaise with internal and external audit on periodic inspections/audits carried out by them.

  • To carry out other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

The appointee will carry out the lawful instructions of the President and comply with the requirements and regulations of the Minister of Education and Skills.

Salary

The salary scale attached to this post is €57,324 to €70,033.

Candidates external to the sector may be appointed up to the 3rd Point (€60,356) of the Salary Scale in accordance with University Policy.

35 hours per week
