The Senior Technical & Energy Manager is a key leadership role responsible for the development, management, and strategic oversight of all building services, energy management programs, and operational efficiency initiatives across the portfolio. This role requires a strong technical background in critical infrastructure (HVAC, refrigeration) combined with excellent skills in contract negotiation, vendor performance management, and regulatory compliance.

What you'll do

Technical Systems Management & Standards

  • Responsible for ensuring best practice and standards for maintaining our refrigeration and HVAC systems across the portfolio, promoting asset longevity and optimal performance.
  • Critique current building energy systems (including HVAC, refrigeration, controls, and electrical) and propose data-driven alternatives to achieve significant energy reduction.
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve the technical reliability and efficiency of all building assets

Contract Management & Procurement

  • Responsible for reviewing building services contracts and redefining scopes of works, focusing on critical services (e.g., maintenance, utilities).
  • Liaise closely with the Procurement department to put comprehensive contracts in place that secure high-quality service, best value, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct supplier performance reviews, including service quality audits and verification of Critical maintenance and PPM programmed visits.

Energy Management & Reporting

  • Develop, manage, and lead the Energy/Technical department with strong mentoring capabilities.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive energy management strategy for all facilities.
  • Manage the development, maintenance, and effectiveness of the utility metering and monitoring system.
  • Conduct detailed energy audits and analyse utilities consumption data; produce reports, including league tables.
  • Monitor on an on-going basis the actual costs incurred against the project costs, ensuring budget adherence.
  • Manage and direct efficiency and technical rollouts within the business, collaborating with regional and site teams.
  • Ad-hoc Tasks: Flexible and adaptable to respond to reasonable ad-hoc tasks as required.

Compliance, Safety & Auditing

  • Ensuring that buildings, assets, and equipment comply with all relevant Health and Safety requirements and operational regulations.
  • Verify compliance with Health and Safety Standards during vendor performance reviews.
  • Manage necessary audits and inspection material to ensure conformity with technical and energy management certifications (e.g. ISO 50001).

What you'll need

  • Education: A degree in Building Services, electrical, or mechanical engineering.
  • Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of and experience with HVAC, refrigeration, building controls, and electrical systems.
  • Analytical Proficiency: Proficiency in energy analysis and technical system diagnostics, with the ability to present findings clearly, logically, and systematically.
  • IT/Software: Excellent Google workspace skills for reporting and analysis.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders ('bring people along').
  • Work Ethic: Self-motivated, able to work unsupervised, strong administration, organisational, documentation, and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Workload Management: Ability to work under tight timescales to meet deadlines and effectively manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Passion: A genuine passion for efficient and sustainable design.
