Department / Function

Senior Training Advisor/Authorised Officers (STA/AO) provide a critical role in ensuring a high quality on-the-job experience in apprenticeship. STA/AO’s approve employers before they can register apprentices, progress the registration of apprentices and provide a point of contact for apprentices in addition to general monitoring of compliance with the Code of Practice for apprenticeship.

Salary Scale

€60,610 p.a. - €73,516 p.a.

Long service Increment 1, €76,149 after three years satisfactory service at the maximum.

Long Service Increment 2, €78,794 after three years satisfactory service at LSI 1

New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of current experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies.

Annual Leave

29 working days per annum (pro-rata).

Working Week

35 hours per week (exclusive of one hour lunch)

Probation

In accordance with S.I. No. 686/2022 - European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) Regulations 2022, the period of probation shall not exceed 12 months.

Superannuation

Membership of the ETB Superannuation Scheme and of the ETB’s Spouses and Children’s Scheme is automatic and compulsory.

A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such panel will remain active for a maximum period of 6 months.

Job Objectives

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To assist in the co-ordination all the activities of the Apprenticeship Programmes.
  • To carry out the functions of an authorised SOLAS Accountable Officer, in accordance with the role’s operational rules as set down by SOLAS.
  • To deliver Apprenticeship Promotional information to Schools, Employers, FET Colleges and other providers.
  • To assess the suitability of employers to train apprentices in accordance with operational guidelines.
  • To register apprentices to Apprenticeship programmes.
  • To identify any Learning Supports that Apprentices may need during their off-the-job training.
  • To brief employers on their roles and responsibilities in relation to the on-the-job Phases of apprenticeship in line with the SOLAS Code of Practice.
  • To deliver the mandatory briefing session to the employers nominated Assessor Verifier.
  • To schedule and deliver the apprentice induction programme.
  • To assist in the calculation of Apprenticeship rates of pay for phases 2, 4 and 6 off-the-job training.
  • To conduct monitoring visits to apprentices and employers during their on-the-job phases.
  • To assist in the management of redundant apprentices.
  • To process applications to the Apprenticeship Appeals Committee.
  • To process exemption applications for registered apprentices.
  • To administer the approval of Apprentices for certification.
  • To operating and consistently update the Apprenticeship Client Services System (ACSS) to ensure all Employer and Apprenticeship data is up to date.
  • To actively participate in the Apprenticeship Awards Ceremony.
  • To liaise with SOLAS and other relevant agencies and representative bodies where necessary and attend STA/ AO briefings when necessary.
  • To undertake any other related duties as required by the manager.
  • To play an active role on the Apprenticeship Services Team and to carry out any other duties as assigned by the Manager.
Skills Requirement

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • A work history, which demonstrates initiative, innovation and ability to accept change and new challenges.
  • A flexible approach with ability to work independently or in a team.
  • A Diploma in Education and Training or similar award would be desirable but not essential
  • Relevant experience within a Training/Education environment would be desirable but not essential.
  • The ability to communicate both written and verbally is essential
  • Good IT and organisational skills are essential.
  • Other requirements include access to a car with full driving licence and having a flexible approach to working outside normal hours which may be required from time to time.
