Role Profile
Located at Plant 1 production facility in Ballyragget, Kilkenny, you will report to the Caseins Manager. Plant 1 manufactures Rennet Casein, Acid Casein and MPC and bags off up to 25,000 tons of these Milk Powders annually. This role operates on a 12-hour shift schedule, including daytime shifts and weekend work.
Key Responsibilities
- Shift Management of all Plant 1 activities from the Casein Plants, Milk Protein Concentrate (MPC) plant and Bag Off areas.
- Schedule plant activities to obtain maximum throughput in accordance with overall production/ planning requirements.
- Adherence to product safety and legality standards, ensure 100% quality product
- Promote & implement Best Practice Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Work very closely with other departments in BRG.
- Maintain highest hygiene standards in accordance with Company policy in both personnel and plant.
- Use Business Excellence (BE) tools to root cause issues, create engagement on the plant floor and drive continuous improvement.
- Work with IQS to optimise uptime and maximise performance.
- Give feedback on KPI performance through regular communication at 3M Meetings to ensure operators are informed and are aware of plant performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Proactively communicate with operators through informal discussions and team briefs to ensure a two-way flow of relevant, timely information.
- Manage the staff roster by reviewing production requirements and tracking holidays / absenteeism to ensure adequate resourcing of plant.
- Highlight performance and training issues as appropriate to maximise the performance of all staff.
- Liaise with staff re any problems and deal with or escalate as appropriate.
- Undertake all other duties as required by manager / business to meet production and customer requirements.
- Manage projects as required
- Comply with all HR policies and procedures in dealing with staff issues
Key Requirements:
- Third level education in Food Science, Engineering or relevant /Processing Discipline
- 1 to 2 years’ experience in a production environment within a processing industry
- Ability to work to tight deadlines
- Excellent problem solving skills.
- Previous People / team management experience an advantage.
- Innovative – improvement orientation
- Work to ‘best practice’ techniques such as lean manufacturing.
- Excellent communications skills
- Demonstrable teamwork and influencing skills
- Strong business awareness and customer orientation
- Demonstrate high technical ability and attention to detail to do the job at a high level of accomplishment
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office suite & a working knowledge of SAP). Working knowledge of IQS/MES an advantage
- Strong communications with multi-functional stakeholders
- Knowledge of Dairy products, processes and recipes an advantage
- Possesses motivational skills oriented towards encouraging people’s best performance possible
