Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team:

We’re the pride of Ireland. Bord Gáis Energy have been powering the nation’s homes and businesses for almost 40 years. But now, we’re so much more than just gas and electric. Through our unique combination of household heroes and energy assets, we’re at the heart of the energy transition in Ireland, strengthening the country’s energy security and helping customers get ready for a net zero future.

Bord Gáis Energy is launching a brand-new Energy Management Centre (EMC) in Athlone to operate our power generation assets— and we’re building a dynamic team of Shift Operations Technicians to help shape its future. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in managing cutting-edge energy assets across Ireland, the UK, and Europe, including Gas Peaking Power Plants and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) — with even more asset types on the horizon.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Shift Operations Technician, you’ll be at the heart of our 24/7 energy operations — interpreting real-time data, responding to critical events, and ensuring our assets run safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with regulations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with teams to foster a Zero Harm safety culture and drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitoring and optimising energy assets to meet contractual, licence, and permit obligations.
  • Controlling and dispatching assets in line with local regulations.
  • Managing and escalating operational events to minimise impact and support root cause investigations.
  • Communicating clearly and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining accurate records and ensuring smooth handovers between shifts.
  • Producing performance reports and working within SLA-driven environments.

What We’re Looking For:

We’re seeking curious, proactive individuals who thrive in fast-paced environments and are excited by the challenge of 24/7, 365 days a year operation. Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Technical or Engineering experience in Electrical, Controls, Process Systems
  • Knowledge of energy markets and asset interactions (a plus!)
  • Strong data analysis skills — familiarity with OSI PI, Power BI, and Excel
  • Experience with incident management and root cause analysis
  • Ability to develop and follow processes and procedures
  • Flexibility to work shifts

Why should you apply? We’re not a perfect place – but we’re a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That’s why we’ve designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too. Visit the link below to discover why we’re a great place to work and what being part of more means for you.
