Details of Service
The HSE in Sligo/Leitrim provides a wide range of specialist services for children and adults with an Intellectual Disability directly and in partnership with persons with disabilities, their families, carers, locally based organisations, statutory and non-statutory organisations. Services range from Specialist Preschool Services to Care of the Older Person with Intellectual Disability.
Sligo/Leitrim Intellectual Disability Services seek to enable each individual with an intellectual disability to achieve his/her full potential, in accordance with their wishes. The services are progressive, needs-led, person centred and underpinned by the principle of equity.
A key element of these services is the promotion of citizenship and inclusion for people with disabilities. Services are needs-led, and delivered using a person-centred approach.
Services are staffed by qualified nursing and health care assistants and are supported by General Practitioners, Consultant Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech & Language Therapist and Community Dietician.
Reporting Relationship
The post holder will report directly to the Disability Service Manager, Sligo/Leitrim Disability Services.
The post holder will report clinically to the Regional Director of Nursing.
Purpose of the Post
The Director of Nursing (Intellectual Disabilities) will be responsible for providing expert support and advice across the service. The post holder will have overall responsibility for development and implementation of governance systems across the service.
The post holder will have responsibility for the overall management of the service in ensuring that compliance is achieved with National Regulations/Standards as set out by the Health Information Quality Authority for Residential and Community Services and New Directions for Day Services.
The focus of the role is on improving the service users experience and quality of service, while delivery agreed Key Performance Indicators and establishing a performance culture and planning and implementing recommendations of National Policies.
The post holder will be a member of the Disability Services Management Team and will hold a key role in creating an atmosphere and culture where excellence can flourish with strong multidisciplinary collaboration across the service.
The post holder is expected to lead on all relevant agreed strategic planning for the service in line with HSE Policy.
