Details of Service
HSE West and North West is responsible for the provision of all acute and community services across the 6 counties of Galway, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal and is operationally divided into 4 Integrated Health Areas (IHAs) – GalwayRoscommon IHA, Mayo IHA, Sligo/Leitrim/West Cavan/South Donegal IHA and Donegal IHA. Each managed by an Integrated Health Area (IHA) Manager.
The HSE provides a wide range of community and hospital based mental health services in Ireland and these services have been evolving as we continue to move from the hospital model to providing more care in communities and in clients' own homes. It is estimated that up to one in five of us will experience some mental health problems in our lifetime and to meet these needs, Mental Health Services are expanding and evolving.

Services include Adult, Older Adult, Psychiatry of Later Life, and ID with a Mental Health Diagnosis, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

Reporting Relationship
When working in the Nursing area, the post holder will report to the Clinical Nurse Manager II or designated officer. The post holder will be accountable to the Assistant Director of Nursing and the Area Director of Nursing.
The role of the Health Care Assistant Mental Health is to support the delivery of patient care under the supervision and direction of qualified nursing personnel (Shannon et al., 2001).

Purpose of the Post
To assist with the delivery of patient care under the supervision and direction of Nursing or other Professional Staff.
“Healthcare assistants provide assistance, support and direct personal care to patients and residents in a variety of healthcare settings such as hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, aged care facilities, as well as community and domestic settings. They generally work in support, or under delegation, direction and supervision, of health professionals. They support multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of high-quality care.” - International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO).
