There is currently 1 whole time permanent Senior Physiotherapist positon available in the Urology service to support the National Urology Model of Care 2019

A panel may be created for Physiotherapist, Senior Urology (Pelvic Health) from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled.

The successful candidate may be required to work in any service area within the vicinity as the need arises.

Sláintecare

The Sláintecare Report (2017) and Sláintecare Implementation Strategy (2018) signal a new direction for the delivery of health and social care services in Ireland with the potential to create a far more sustainable, equitable, cost effective system and one that delivers better value for patients and service users. At its core, the strategy focuses on establishing programmes of work to move to a community-led model, providing local populations with access to a comprehensive range of non-acute services at every stage of their lives. This will enable our healthcare system to provide care closer to home for patients and service users, to be more responsive to needs and deliver better outcomes, with a strong focus on prevention and population health improvement.

Internationally, the strategic repositioning of health services is recognised as a better approach to meet the challenges of escalating demand from an ageing population and the prevalence of chronic diseases, while at the same time ensuring better access to care, addressing inequalities in health and delivering sustainability and best value for population health.

The enhanced community care model is currently being implemented with specialist teams for management of chronic disease and care of the older persons and public health nursing will play a significant role in this change model.

Urology Model of Care for Ireland (2019) envisages a system of urology care that serves the majority of patients, in the primary care setting, while assuring appropriate clinical governance to support a safe and high quality service. Its implementation in full is necessary for an efficient and economically viable service so that we can improve the access of patients across Ireland to the services they require as they get older.

This includes preventative and curative interventions encompassing clinical work, care planning, assessments, reviews, liaison with relevant statutory and voluntary services, and work in both clinical and domiciliary settings.

Clinical Specialist Physiotherapists in Urology (Pelvic Health) have specific responsibilities in the area of clinical care, support, training, etc., in the area of urinary and bowel dysfunction. This work with relevant patient cohorts is essential in optimising physical, social and mental health and well-being of persons with such clinical needs and is an integral post in the Physiotherapy Department in provision of holistic care to eligible patients across the life continuum.

Reporting Relationship

The post holder will report to the Physiotherapy manager in the IHA Sligo/Leitrim/South Donegal/ West Cavan for clinical and operational governance.

Purpose of the Post

· To work in conjunction with other team members in co-ordinating and developing the Urology service to meet the needs of the population it serves, in line with the objectives of the organisation.

· To be responsible for the provision of a high quality physiotherapy service in accordance with standards of professional practice.

· To carry out clinical and educational duties as required

· To work with the Physiotherapy Manager and Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in ensuring the co-ordination, development and delivery of a quality, client centred physiotherapy service across and between networks in the geographical area.

· To deliver Urology Continence services in line with best clinical practice.

· To develop and implement strategies as part of the Urology service for delivering effective physiotherapy care within a changing environment.
