Sound Trainee
Location: Various production locations across Northern Ireland
Salary: £12.60 per hour (Real Living Wage)
Contract: Fixed-term training placements (non-continuous)
Hours: 40 hours/week (prep/wrap weeks) | 60 hours/week (shoot weeks)

Are you curious about how film and TV are made behind the scenes? Interested in sound, music, or audio? The Creative Industries New Entrants (CINE) Programme offers a chance to get started in the screen industry through real-world experience, practical training, and paid work on professional productions.
This opportunity is open to new entrants aged 18+ who are currently underrepresented in the screen industries. To be eligible, applicants must meet at least one of the following:
As a Sound Trainee, you’ll support the sound department on film and TV sets across Northern Ireland. You’ll assist with equipment, learn from professionals, and gain first-hand experience on working productions such as TV dramas and feature films.
No previous experience is required, just enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

As a Sound Trainee, you’ll support the sound department on film and TV sets across Northern Ireland. You’ll assist with equipment, learn from professionals, and gain first-hand experience on working productions such as TV dramas and feature films.
No previous experience is required, just enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
Before your first placement, you’ll receive up to four weeks of industry-led training, covering:
- Health & safety on set
- Sustainability
- Set etiquette
- An introduction to the sound department with mentoring
- Helping to set up and pack away sound equipment
- Running cables, managing batteries, and preparing microphones
- Supporting sound team during recording
- Liaising with other departments (e.g. costume) for mic placement
- Learning from experienced crew and asking questions when appropriate
You must be able to show:
- A genuine interest in film/TV and curiosity about how things are made
- An interest in sound or audio (e.g. music, podcasts, video projects, etc.)
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A reliable, practical approach and willingness to follow instructions
- The right to work in the UK and flexibility to work across Northern Ireland
- A full UK driving licence and access to transport
- Any informal experience with sound
- An interest in building a career in film and TV
