We are currently seeking a highly-motivated Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist in Intellectual Disability 0-18 years to join our team in CHO 1 Cavan .

Contract Type: 12 month fixed term contract

Contract Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary Scale: €68,897 to €80,302 pro rata per annum. Salary scales are subject to LSI’s (Long Service Increments)

This pay scale is subject to increases in 2026 in accordance with the recent WRC agreement towards enhanced pay adjustments in Section 39 organisations.

Annual Leave Entitlement: 33 days pro rata per annum

Overview of the Post:
The Speech and Language Therapist, Clinical Specialist will provide advanced specialist assessment, intervention and clinical leadership within an inter-disciplinary disability service supporting children and young people presenting with complex needs arising from their disability aged 0-18 years within CHO 1, Cavan.

The postholder will deliver evidence-informed, person-centred and trauma-informed communication supports that support individuals to communicate effectively and participate in daily life.

The SLT Clinical Specialist will use clinical reasoning skills to provide specialist support and advice to the SLT team and other staff whilst maintaining a clinical caseload on the CDNT, Cavan.

The SLT Clinical Specialist will work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team, with individuals, families and circles of support and will contribute to holistic assessment, family centred practice and coordinated interventions that promote inclusion, autonomy and quality of life utilising a neuro-affirmative framework.

The role will also contribute to clinical governance, service development, quality improvement and capacity building across the service, supporting best practice in Speech and Language Therapy within children’s disability services.

The postholder will participate in ongoing audit and appropriate work-related research/ evaluation projects in areas relevant to intellectual disability.

The successful candidate will have

Essential Criteria:

• Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

Candidates for appointment must be:

· Be registered as a Speech & Language Therapist by the Speech & Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

And

· Have 5 years full time (or equivalent) years post qualification clinical experience of which 4 years full time (or equivalent) must be consecutive in the required area of specialism.

And

· Demonstrate a proven record of clinical excellence in the specialism

And

· Professional Development and Practice Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development relevant to the required area of specialism, in the form of postgraduate qualifications or relevant courses.

And

· Candidates must demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research.

And

· Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

And

· Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Speech & Language Therapist Register maintained by the Speech & Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

1. On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Speech & Language Therapists Register maintained by the Speech & Language Therapists Registration Board at CORU.

2. Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to Enable Ireland

• Be employed as a Senior Speech & Language Therapist working within a disability service
• 5 years’ experience in the area of Paediatric (0 – 18 years) disability service for children with complex needs
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience, 4 of which must include demonstrated experience working in the area of intellectual disability

• Valid driving licence for within the state / jurisdiction with access to own transport in order to deliver services across a large geographical area

Desirable Criteria:

· Experience and/or training in clinical supervision.

· Group work

· Supervision of other staff and students

· Speech & Language caseload management

· Experience of delivering education and / conducting research

· Experience in service development and practice standards development

· Experience in coordinating clinics and leading and working at a consultative level in clinics alongside consultant and other lead therapists
