CLINICAL SPECIALIST SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST – PAEDIATRIC FEEDING, EATING, DRINKING AND SWALLOWING (FEDS)
12 month temporary Post
Full-time -35 hours/week (Flexibility regarding WTE may be considered)
The Clinical Specialist SLT will join our large, vibrant SLT team to support the FEDS service across the 4 St. Michael’s House Children’s Disability Network Teams: Ballymun, Coastal, Coolock and Kilbarrack. Flexibility regarding base location will be considered.
Salary in line with HSE consolidated pay scales
This is an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with advanced knowledge and skills in paediatric FEDS to join us in supporting children and their families, presenting with complex needs arising from a disability.
St. Michael’s House CDNTs have a large SLT team with well-established paediatric FEDS services and pathways, including inter-disciplinary team clinics for children presenting with complex FEDS needs. The SLTs work closely with Paediatricians and Dietitians in addition to the core interdisciplinary team. The successful candidate will join the existing team of CDNT SLTs in a leadership role to further develop FEDS clinical pathways, interventions and to implement clinical research.
The Children’s Disability Network Teams (CDNTs) provide a quality evidence-based service in line with Progressing Disability Services (PDS) principles including family-centred practice. Excellent clinical governance structures are in place including regular line management provided by the Children’s Disability Network Manager and clinical supervision provided by the SLT Manager. Structured and funded CPD systems are in place to further support professional development goals. St. Michael’s House provide a supportive Employee Wellbeing Programme. The successful candidate must have the following:
Essential Criteria:
· Candidates must, on the closing date possess: (i) the B. Sc degree (Clinical Speech and Language Studies) from the University of Dublin/ NUIG or UCC OR (ii) the BA (Moderatorship)(Remedial Linguistics) from the University of Dublin OR (iii) the M.Sc in Speech & Language Therapy (Professional Qualification) from the University of Limerick OR (iv) Licentiateship from the College of Speech Therapists OR (v) A validated Speech & Language qualification at least equivalent to (i), (ii), (iii) or (iv) above
· Be registered with the register maintained by the Speech and Language Therapy Registration Board at CORU.
· A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience as a Speech and Language Therapist.
· A minimum of 4 years experience working in the area of paediatric FEDS with advanced level competencies and skills in this area.
· Evidence of ongoing CPD in the area of paediatric FEDS
· Experience in providing leadership, service development and demonstrating initiative.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and capacity to take on active roles and responsibilities within team structures.
· Demonstrate and promote collaborate working relationships within teams in the delivery of integrated, family-centred services.
Desirable Criteria:
· Experience in paediatric FEDS in the area of disability
· Experience in teaching and mentoring students, staff and therapists and being a clinical resource to others.
· Advanced CPD and/or postgraduate education/qualification in the area of paediatric FEDS
· Experience in delivering education/training to a variety of stakeholders.
· Experience in participating in the conduction of research and/or teaching/lecturing experience
· Full clean driving licence with use of a car.
