STAFF NURSE / ENHANCED NURSE (DAY/NIGHTS) - Ref: 97935

Permanent Full-Time / Part-Time / Casual Relief

Location: Residential & Day Services Cork City & suburbs and St. Patrick’s Upton (Innishannon)

A panel will be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Staff Nurse / Enhanced Nurse appointments (including part-time relief posts) within our Cork City and Upton (Innishannon) Co. Cork Services will be made over the next 12 months.

The Role

To support adults with and intellectual disability and autism in high support settings in line with person centred practice and human rights principles. The person appointed will be very flexible in their approach to service provision and have the ability to work both on their own initiative and as a member of a team. He/she will be required to take an active part in ensuring that their day-to-day work reflects the ethos and vision of the Corlann Service and that the needs of the men and women in the service are being met by them as directed.

The Candidate

  • Professional Qualifications, Experience etc.
  • Eligible applicants will be those who are on the closing date for the competition:
  • Be registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI)(An Bord Altranais), Candidates must hold a recognised nursing qualification—RNID, RGN, or RPN—as an essential requirement for this post.
  • Candidates must possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and professional capacity—both clinical and administrative—to perform all duties of the post to a high standard.
  • On appointment, practitioners are required to maintain active annual registration on the Register of Nurses and Midwives with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) [An Bord Altranais). This registration must remain current for the duration of employment.
  • A Full clean Manual driving license which requires you to drive a manual Vehicle on Irish roads is an essential Requirement.
  • Have a suitable standard of professional attainments AND
  • Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office)
  • Be computer literate including proficiency in Microsoft Office and knowledge and proficiency of using information systems.
  • Candidate must show a willingness maintain and improve their knowledge, skills and competence through continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Experience

    • Relevant experience of working with adults with an intellectual disability / autism, dysregulated behaviour, working with a team in high support setting in a Residential setting is desirable
    • One year experience of working as a staff nurse within the area of Intellectual disability is desirable
    • Ability to work independently
    • Demonstrate experience and understanding of how to support individuals with clinical support requirements and a understanding of the importance of working in line with written protocols and guidelines
    • Demonstrate experience in completing and updating healthcare documentation including, Hospital Passports, Healthcare Management Plans, and other relevant clinical records to support safe, person‑centred care.
    • Have good knowledge of HIQA (residential) / new directions (day Services)
    • Strong communication skills to effectively advocate for the persons supported and their healthcare needs.
    • Excellent problem solving skills utilising lowest impact interventions wherever possible.
    • Experience of Positive Behaviour Support interventions.
    • Experience of working to agreed protocols, and feeding back to inform evolution of same is highly desirable.
    • Experience of risk management strategies and risk management in general.

    2. Age

    The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018* set 70 years as the compulsory

    retirement age for public servants.

    * Public Servants not affected by this legislation:

    Public servants recruited between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no

    compulsory retirement age.

    Public servants recruited since 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have

    a compulsory retirement age of 70.

    3. Health

    Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of

    undertaking the duties attached to the role and be in a state of health such as would indicate a

    reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

    4. Character

    Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

    Salary Scale: Department of Health Consolidated scales (1/2/26) and depending on grade

    Staff Nurse: €37,788 - €56,032 per annum (Pro-rata for part-time hours)

    Enhanced Nurse: €44,811 - €57,846 per annum (Pro-rata for part-time hours)

    * Successful candidates are required to submit all documentary evidence outlining any relevant experience within 3 months of starting date. Failure to do so will mean that any incremental credit due now will only be paid from date of submission of documents.
