Location:

Cregoran Services is a progressive, dynamic and developing service located in and around Claregalway, Co. Galway. Cregoran provides a variety of residential, day and respite services to adults with intellectual disabilities who have very high support needs, grounded in the use of personal outcome measures.

We aim to support people to participate in the everyday life of their community, to have ordinary life experiences, and to create opportunities for the people we support to form real friendships.

Role:

The role of the Nurse is a significant role in ensuring the continuity and quality of supports provided, as well as the day to day governance structure of Cregoran Services. The successful candidate must work and provide leadership to more junior colleagues in line with Personal Outcomes Measures, HIQA standards, New Directions and future service requirements.

The successful candidate will fulfil a key supportive and advocative role for people supported by Cregoran Services in all aspects of their lives. Core to this is the focus on each individual’s ability and the promotion of independence and development of skills at all times. The successful candidate will assist people with the development of their person-centred plans and, critically, will support people to make informed choices and fulfil their potential. They will encourage participation in the community through inclusive and creative thinking, seek opportunities for new experiences and encourage positive risk taking in leading to informed choices.

The successful candidate must be flexible and adaptable to ensure the service provided is moulded to meet the needs of the people they support. The successful candidate must be able to work to ensure the provision of a safe, secure environment where individuals participate in community and leisure activities, making choices and enjoy a lifestyle that fulfils their potential and expectations, while also having the opportunity for new experiences.

The successful candidate will work within the overall service team, ensuring that the life of each

individual reflects the Organisations core values by supporting each individual’s development in

the areas of:

· Whilst ensuring the physical, medical, social and emotional wellbeing outcomes of the people supported are observed.

Reporting/Responsible To:

Team Leader / Service Coordinator /Area Manager/Sector Manager

Qualifications/Experience:

Ø A current Live Register Certificate or be in the process of registering with the NMBI (An Bord Altranais) as a Nurse with RNID qualification being highly desirable.

Ø Candidates without RNID qualification must have a minimum of 1 years’ experience gained working in services for people with intellectual disabilities.

Ø Candidates must have a full clean manual driving licence.

Ø Experience of working with individuals with behaviours that challenge is essential.

Ø Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience of leading and supporting a team.

Ø Practical working knowledge and experience of HIQA regulations and Standards is essential.

Ø Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post.

Ø Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.

Ø Proficiency in computer skills and online data management systems.

Working Hours:

75 hours per fortnight.

All posts are based on a 14-day duty roster.

The successful candidate may be required to work days, evenings, weekends, public holidays, sleepovers / night duty where required, to meet service needs.

Corlann West Region’s model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures quality and person centred planning system requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours to provide a quality service delivery for each person supported

The successful candidate will eventually be required to take responsibility as the senior person on duty in order to support colleagues across Cregoran Services, on a rostered basis, outside of usual business hours. Training and support will be provided to support this.

Annual Leave:

24 days pro-rata per annum i.e. 9.23 hours per 100 hours worked. Appropriate service related leave will be granted after 5 and 10 years’ service respectively.

Annual leave must be planned in advance with the Team Leader / Service Coordinator to ensure appropriate and adequate cover is provided for the service.

Remuneration:

Department of Health Staff Nurse salary scale - €37,288 per annum x 11 increments - €53,873 (MAX) per annum. Long Service Increment (LSI) - €55,477 per annum is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.

Or

Department of Health Enhanced Nurse salary scale - €44,811 per annum x 7 increments - €56,200 (MAX) per annum. Long Service Increment (LSI) €57,846 per annum is granted after 3 years on the maximum of the scale.

The successful candidate will be granted incremental credit subject to satisfactory verification of previous relevant nursing service.

Any Staff Nurse who wishes to avail of the Enhanced Nurse role will have to submit an application and also meet the qualifying criteria.

Tenure:

These posts are Permanent full-time and pensionable.

Probation:

A probationary period of nine months from the date of appointment applies to the post. Employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probation period may be extended at the Employer’s discretion.
