Remuneration
The salary scale for the post is 01/08/2025:
€34,582 €36,425 €37,798 €38,371 €38,613 €39,184 €39,770 €40,230 €40,783
New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011). Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of previous experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies.
Reporting Relationship
The post holder will report to the Grade VII Administration Manager, Newcastle Hospital.
Purpose of the Post
The Stores Attendant will assist in supplying the needs of the Hospital by generating purchase orders for catering department supplies, accepting and checking deliveries, managing stock levels, delivering goods and supporting portering requests as required to all areas of the hospital and liaising with appropriate staff in a professional manner.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Professional Responsibilities
• Purchase Buyer – Generating Purchase orders on SAP / IFMS
• Goods receipting of orders on SAP/IFMS
• Stock control
• Accept deliveries into the Stores Department and carry out all relevant checks as per hospital policy
• Deliver supplies to all areas of the hospital as required and put stock to designated locations on all Wards/Departments
• Liaise with appropriate staff in relation to supplies and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues
• Adhere to training requirements as per HSE policies
• Maintain a high standard of professional behaviour and be accountable for their practice
• Be aware of ethical policies and procedures which pertain to their area of practice
• Respect and maintain the privacy, dignity and confidentiality of residents
• Adhere to organisational dress code
Driving
• Maintain vehicle checks for Logistics vehicles
• Use company vehicles for collection and delivery of supplies, etc.
• Other driving duties as may be assigned from time to time

• Have the competence to work on one’s own initiative and unsupervised, the person employed must have the ability to work effectively within the Supplies team in a proactive approach and manner
• Commitment to providing a quality service including an awareness and appreciation of the service user such as patients, medical and non-medical staff
Education & Training
• Be required to participate in the education and training programme as part of your role
Health & Safety
• Familiarise himself / herself with the Fire Fighting Equipment and the Fire & Safety Regulations in operation at the complex
• Familiarise himself / herself with the code of Safe Lifting Practice and to adhere to same at all times
• Use protective clothing and equipment as necessary during the course of duty in accordance with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 1989 and 2004 and observe all other Safety Procedures currently in force
• Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards, etc. and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role
• To support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service
• Knowledge of Health and Safety and how it pertains to the workplace
• Knowledge of safe and environmentally friendly work practice
Eligibility Criteria
Qualifications and/or experience
Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed application forms for the post, possess the following:
Good standard of education (minimum requirement of Junior/Intermediate Certificate)
AND
Have recent experience of working in a warehouse/supplies department within the last 5 years.
AND
Be computer literate.
AND
Have the administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
Health
A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Post Specific Requirements
• A full clean driving licence (Category B) is required to carry out the porter duties across the service which may include delivering supplies delivered across Mental Health sites and cover may be required to deliver meals to the units. HSE vehicles are onsite for both tasks.

Other requirements specific to the post
• All posts in Newcastle Hospital / Supplies Department require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service. Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required
• Computer skills are essential including experience in Excel, Microsoft Word and Outlook
• Access to appropriate transport in order to fulfil the requirements of the role

Eligible candidates must be:
(i) EEA, Swiss, or British citizens
OR
(ii) Non-European Economic Area citizens with permission to reside and work in the State

To qualify candidates must be eligible by the closing date of the campaign.

Tenure
The current vacancy available is permanent and whole time. The post is pensionable. A panel may be created from which permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part time duration may be filled. The tenure of these posts will be indicated at “expression of interest” stage.
Appointment as an employee of the Health Service Executive is governed by the Health Act 2004 and the Public Service Management (Recruitment and Appointments) Act 2004 and Public Service Management (Recruitment and Appointments) Amendment Act 2013.
Working Week
The standard weekly working hours of attendance for your grade are 39 hours per week. Your normal weekly working hours are 39 hours. Contracted hours that are less than the standard weekly working hours for your grade will be paid pro rata to the full time equivalent.
Annual Leave
The annual leave associated with the post will be confirmed at Contracting stage.
Superannuation
This is a pensionable position with the HSE. The successful candidate will upon appointment become a member of the appropriate pension scheme. Pension scheme membership will be notified within the contract of employment. Members of pre-existing pension schemes who transferred to the HSE on the 01st January 2005 pursuant to Section 60 of the Health Act 2004 are entitled to superannuation benefit terms under the HSE Scheme which are no less favourable to those which they were entitled to at 31st December 2004.
Age
The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018* set 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants.
Public Servants not affected by this legislation: Public servants joining the public service or re-joining the public service with a 26 week break in service, between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no compulsory retirement age. Public servants, joining the public service or re-joining the public service after a 26 week break, after 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have a compulsory retirement age of 70.
