Substance Abuse Counsellor
The Role
As a member of the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) the post holder will provide a professional counselling, psychoeducation and information service in the area of addiction and drug dependency to adults referred to the service.
The Person
1.Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc .
(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
I. Possess a recognised qualification at a minimum of Level 7 (or higher) on the QQI National Framework of Qualifications in Addiction Counselling, and/or Psychotherapy, Psychology, Medicine, or a relevant Health and Social Care profession (e.g., Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech & Language Therapy), or be registered as a Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI), or hold an equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction.
Where applicable, qualifications in Counselling, Psychotherapy, Addiction Counselling or Psychology must be accredited by one of the following professional bodies: Addiction Counsellors of Ireland (ACI), the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP), or the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).
And
Be accredited as a practitioner with at least one of the following associations, the Addiction Counsellors of Ireland – ACI (formerly known as the Irish Association of Alcohol & Addiction Counsellors – IAAC), Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), Irish Association of Humanistic and Intergrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) or recognised equivalent from another jurisdiction
And
I. Have two years experience as a counsellor in the areas of addiction/substance misuse
(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and management ability, for the proper discharge of the office.
2. Health
A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office
3. Character
Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be
of good character.
