Support Worker, Outreach Service

We are currently recruiting for the following position:

Post: Support Worker

Contract: Specified Purpose, Part-Time (9.75hrs per week)

Location: Killarney/Killorglin

Roster: Sat : 10:00 -15:45, Wed/Thurs: 15:30 - 17:30

* This roster may be subject to change due to the Operational requirements of the Service*

This position is to support a young gentleman 2:1 as part of an experienced day service team, providing opportunities to access the community and participate in activities that he enjoys. It requires experience in supporting individuals with challenging behaviours, autism and communication needs.

The Role:

  • The core activities for the post of Community Support Worker will include planning and setting goals with the person to assist them in meeting their personal, social, recreational, academic, independent living, community integration, training, and supported employment needs.
  • As a Community Support Worker, you will enable the people we support to realise their goals and achieve their identified priorities. You will also provide support and act as an advocate for participation and inclusion in the community on behalf of the person we support.
  • The Community Support Worker operates within the framework of a person centered approach and actively engages with and promotes co-operation and partnership with other services, both internally and externally and in particular with families.

Essential Criteria:

  • QQI Level 5 in Healthcare Support. Equivalent qualifications to Healthcare support will be considered, with a minimum of 1 years relevant experience working with Adults with an Intellectual Disability
  • Applications will also be considered from candidates who have successfully completed at least 1 year of their Nursing or Social Care degree.
  • Experience of working in a care delivery capacity, preferably within a disability service.
  • Experience of supporting people in the Community.
  • A full drivers licence with access to a car insured for business purposes is essential.
  • Must have a person centred approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and must be able to work on own initiative.
  • Good IT skills desirable.
  • Where applicable applicants must hold a valid Irish work permit.
