Salary: NCAD Technical Officer Salary Scale-€47,279 to €74,919* per annum, €28,367.40 to €44,951.40 pro rata.
*Candidates should note that as per Department of Finance guidelines, entry will be at the first point of the salary scale and the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with government pay policy. Candidates should note that different pay and conditions may apply if, immediately prior to appointment, the appointee is a serving civil or public servant.
Annual Leave: Annual Leave will be 3.5 working weeks per annum. This leave is exclusive of public holidays.
Hours of Attendance: The standard hours of work are 21 hours per week (FTE 0.6). This equates to 3 days per week worked between Monday to Friday for 42 weeks per year. This 42-week period is inclusive of 3.5 weeks annual leave.
The start date of this 42-week period is the Monday 2 weeks prior to Week 1 on the Academic
Calendar each year.

Role Purpose:
The National College of Art and Design is Ireland’s leading provider of art and design education for art practitioners and for teachers of art.NCAD’s Department of First Year Art & Design Studies is seeking a Technical Officer specializing in Digital Technologies. First Year Art & Design is a dynamic department supporting just over 300 students who are engaged in an interdisciplinary learning programme as they progress toward their degree specialization. During this year students are introduced to a wide range of processes and practices, all at entry level. A multidisciplinary academic staff team of circa 30 staff, representing the 14 specialist areas available at undergraduate level in NCAD, deliver the programme.
During this transition to third level the students will learn to use the NCAD Canvas VLE, as well as beginning with digital practices relevant to their academic research and their art and design practice development.
Responsibilities:
● Provide technical assistance to users of the digital technology hardware and software available in, or to, the department, supporting first year students in the techniques and processes involved in the use of Digital technology and Software in the First year studies Department.
● Demonstrate, as required, techniques and processes in the use of the various software programmes and equipment in the First Year Design Department
● Help students overcome specific technical problems that they encounter
● Assist in supervising students in the workshop.
● Cooperate with and provide supportive assistance to staff and students in bringing conceptual ideas to fruition.
● Support the Lecturers delivering the programme generally and demonstrate as necessary.
● Give support to the Lecturers in the design and development of practical delivery sessions and the associated workshops
● Assist in the development of student practical digital notebooks.
● Maintain and, where appropriate, construct equipment. (Delete and manage materials).
● Order, store and record appropriate materials stock.
● Implement and adhere to all Health & Safety regulations at all times.
● Ensure work areas are organized to facilitate efficient and safe functioning of the workshop.
● Engage in appropriate administrative duties particularly regarding Health & Safety, store maintenance and purchasing.
● Undertake any other such appropriate duties which may be assigned from time to time by their Head of Department.
Mandatory Criteria:
● Academic qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
● Relevant technical qualification or experience in the industry or a third level educational setting.
● Experience in working with digital technology and maintaining an active interest in related developments within the sector.
● Capacity and enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary context within the Department, and College.
● Commitment to CPD and interest in emerging research, technology and techniques.
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
● Strong leadership skills.
Skills needed:
● Adobe Creative Suite - Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere in particular (+After Effects desirable).
● Microsoft Office / Google Suite.
● Basic computer maintenance / upkeep.
● General knowledge of Windows & Mac operating systems.
Desirable but non-essential additional skills:
● Photography
● Videography
● 3D Modelling and Printing
● Laser Cutting
● Basic Electronics
● Capability with Arduino
