Telemetry Maintenance Technician
Grade and Salary E: €49,252 - €73,877 per year The Role:
The Asset Operations functions form the cornerstone of service delivery to customers, protecting the environment and meeting regulatory standards as well as managing the majority of operational expenditure. The Asset Operational Control Function has responsibility for developing, implementing, and managing the activities of key technical teams and infrastructure, which provide expertise and excellence on a national basis in collaboration with, and complementary to, the Regional and Local delivery of routine front-line water and wastewater services.
The Integrated Operations team monitor the performance of the operating environment, ensuring risks to service continuity are identified and managed and that the Customer first approach is at the forefront of Asset Operations activities. This will include the performance of the asset base, optimising production and managing network integrity during interventions.
The Telemetry Maintenance Technician will report to the Telemetry Maintenance Lead. The Telemetry Maintenance Technician has a national remit and is responsible for supporting the delivery of a customer focused service providing day to day developmental, technical and operational support to the National Operations Management Centre team and the users of the Uisce Éireann Telemetry system. This involves the review of site signal listings, configuration, monitoring end to end testing and resolving problems (nuisance alarming, incorrect configuration etc.), the raising of work orders and stakeholder management where appropriate.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for supporting the delivery of a customer focused service providing day to day developmental, technical and operational support to the National Operations Management Centre team and the users of the Uisce Éireann Telemetry system.
- Responsible for the review of site signal listings, configuration, monitoring end to end testing and resolving problems (nuisance alarming, incorrect configuration etc.), the raising of work orders and stakeholder management where appropriate.
- Responsible for providing configuration and development support in the modification of all data points and mimics along with site mimics for OPEX and/or CAPEX work on the Uisce Éireann Telemetry system.
- Responsible for maintaining telemetry outstation software configuration library in line with agreed standards.
- Responsible for telemetry inventory management, panel inspections and asset tagging.
- Responsible for supporting day-to-day monitoring and operations of the Telemetry system including the Telemetry communications network.
- Responsible for investigating and problem solving to resolve telemetry communications issues.
- Responsible for supporting the management of the day-to-day interfaces with the National Operations Management Centre, Asset Operations, Asset Planning, Asset Delivery, Local Authorities and Third Party/Contractors where relevant, to ensure effective working relationships at all levels of the system, ensuring that Uisce Éireann Telemetry standards and policies are implemented and providing advice and guidance as required.
- Programme and amend telemetry software settings for Uisce Éireann assets in response to new circumstances and regulations or developments in technology.
- Responsible for designing and modifying telemetry software builds to agreed standards.
- Responsible for updating configuration requirements for alarms and events in compliance with the Uisce Éireann Standards and Policies.
- Responsible for assisting in the preparation of site-specific failure reports, interpreting data and assisting in root cause analysis investigations.
- Responsible for ensuring that all tasks are compliant with agreed processes and procedures and demonstrate the agreed levels of governance.
- Adhere to all HSQE plans, policies and procedures.
- Responsible for monitoring and reporting KPIs for processes over which they have ownership.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business
- Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards.
- Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives.
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Experienc
- Relevant third level qualification and or accreditation is desirable and or relevant experience
- A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience required. Experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable.
- Technical knowledge of different systems and processes, e.g. configuration of ICA equipment and telemetry outstations and the creation of site graphics
- Requires an understanding of the internal structure of databases and how to extract relevant data
- Knowledge of operational sites and processes and an understanding of the data being collected in the telemetry system.
- Knowledge of communications protocols (e.g: MODBUS), IP routing, router configuration and industry standards
- Knowledge of Analogue and Digital field devices
- Knowledge of SCADA, HMI and Ethernet networking preferred
- Ability to demonstrate logical fault finding / analytical skills
- Knowledge of Remote Telemetry Units and Analogue & Digital field devices

- Full, clean and valid Irish category B driving licence is minimum requirement. A clean driving licence is defined as meaning that the applicant has not been convicted of an offence under the Road Traffic Acts (other than an offence for which the penalty is the imposition of penalty points)
