Naas General Hospital is a 243 bedded – acute model 3 public hospital serving the catchment area of Kildare and West-Wicklow with a population of over a quarter of a million people. It provides a range of services including medical, surgical and stroke. There is a 4-bedded intensive care unit. Our services are designed to meet the needs of the adult population in this catchment area. The majority of hospital activity results from unscheduled inpatient admissions through the Emergency Department (ED). The emergency department is open 24-hours per day 7 days per week all year round. The hospital is owned and managed by the Health Service Executive (HSE) and is part of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group.

The clinical microbiology service at Naas General Hospital (NGH) provides a 24/7 service – laboratory reporting, clinical liaison, infection prevention & control advice and antimicrobial stewardship, as well as clinical liaison and advice to GPs, Occupational, Community and Public Health colleagues as required.

The Department Gastroenterology Naas General Hospital delivers Gastroenterology services and are involved in continual change initiatives to improve patient access.

Registration as a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine

• Demonstrable specialist experience in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine (GIM).
• Significant clinical experience in the management of patients with gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary conditions.
• Practical endoscopy/scoping experience is essential, with demonstrable competence in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy appropriate to the requirements of the post.
• Applicants should have experience in providing Gastroenterology and GIM services within an acute hospital setting, including participation in the relevant on-call arrangements.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development and maintenance of clinical competencies in Gastroenterology, GIM and endoscopy.
