Salary Scale 1; SCP 3; £12.85 per hour The Council applies the Living Foundation Wage of £13.45 per hour to applicable grades
Main Purpose of Job and Responsibilities
At the forefront, you will conduct tours throughout the caves and environs, describing geological processes in relation to cave and landscape geography.
- Lead informative tours, describing geological processes in relation to cave and landscape geography;
- As directed, lead educational trips and tours;
- Assist with the protection of the Marble Arch Caves, nearby sites, and their environs by providing a watchful presence at all times;
- Respond to face-to-face, telephone, and online visitor enquiries as required;
- Play an active role in welcoming and safeguarding all visitors;
- Proactively report problems and incidents in accordance with Council procedures;
- Operate the underground boat as directed;
- Carry out basic surface and underground maintenance work such as path cleaning;
- Undertake general cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout the facility, including toilets, staff kitchen areas, and public areas as directed;
- Participate in training on health and safety, first aid, emergency response, rescue warning, and evacuation drills;
- Share knowledge with other seasonal employees;
- Ensure the public and colleagues are provided with a safe environment, reporting any risks and concerns in accordance with operational procedures;
- Undertake any other relevant duties considered necessary by the Manager or other Senior Officer for the provision of a high quality service to visitors.
General:
- Comply with all the Council’s policies and procedures, including the Employee Code of Conduct and the Employee and Councillor Working Relationship Protocol;
- Promote the Council’s equal opportunities policies and avoid all forms of discrimination as an employer and a service provider;
- Implement all Financial and Procurement policies and procedures;
- Comply with employee responsibility in relation to all records held, created, or used as part of the Council’s business. All records, paper or electronic, are public records and accessible by the general public, with limited exceptions, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Environment Regulations 2004, and the Data Protection Act 1998;
- Undertake the duties of the post at all times in a manner that enhances and promotes the positive image of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council;
- The postholder will be expected to be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs and requirements of the organisation. The above list should not be seen as an exhaustive list of duties, and the postholder will be expected to undertake other relevant duties as required.
Essential Criteria
- An interest in working at the Marble Arch Caves;
- Hold a minimum of three months experience of dealing with the public in a customer service capacity;
- Working knowledge of health and safety.
General
This is a top up of an existing casual register for employment. Those who are currently on the register are not required to apply and should await instructions from the Operations Officer or other Senior Officer regarding commencement.
In order of merit, preference will be given to those applicants available to work immediately.
A reserve list may be created from which further appointments may be made at the Marble Arch Caves.
The appointment will be subject to:
a) Satisfactory references from two referees (one of which should be from the present or previous employer); b) A satisfactory standard of attendance, conduct, and performance in carrying out the duties of the post; c) The satisfactory completion of a probationary period of six months, with an interim review at three months; d) Wages being paid to employees monthly; e) The terms of the Northern Ireland Local Government Pension Scheme; f) The production of evidence of educational and/or professional qualifications as listed on the application form; g) A medical report by the Council’s Medical Examiner which confirms fitness for employment in the position.
