Purpose and Function of Post
Applicants must be available to undertake one week of intense training from NPLQ from Monday 21st September – Friday 25th September 2026 in Greenvale Leisure Centre, between the hours of 9am to 5pm*

Applicants will be required to successfully undertake the following as part of the pre-test lifeguard course and prerequisite swim test prior to commencing NPLQ training. Assessment includes the need for the applicant to demonstrate the ability to:
Following completion of intensive NPLQ training, trainee’s will be required to undertake an exam at a date to be confirmed (provisionally 26th September).
Only those applicants who successfully pass this examination will progress through the recruitment process.
Following successful exam completion, candidates will be paid for training hours at a rate of £13.69 per hour once they have accepted a suitable, relevant MUDC post.
Note, where successful cohort numbers exceed vacant posts available, individuals will be placed on a reserve list register which will remain valid for 12 months.
Posts may be offered for various contracted hours, various durations and for any site within the MUDC area.
MUDC will absorb the cost of the course however should a candidate who successfully complete the NPLQ and fail to accept an offer of employment with MUDC within the 12 month period following completion, the council will seek to recoup payment of this qualification from candidates, and no course attendance payments will be made.
In addition to the standard pre-employment checks, these positions will also be subject to receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced with the Barred List Access (NI) check, in accordance with Access NI Code of Practice.

- Ensure highest standards of customer service within a safe and welcoming environment.
- Carry out duties as directed, including lifeguarding, cleaning, event/activity setup/takedowns and supervision and reception duties.

- Swim 50 meters in less than 60 seconds
- Swim 100 meters continuously on front and back in deep water
- Tread water for 30 seconds
- Surface dive to the floor of the pool
- Climb out unaided without ladder / steps and where the pool design permits
