Trauma Reception/emergency Department Staff Nurse Rotation
As a rotational staff nurse, the post holder will spend between three to six months rotating between the main Emergency Department (ED) and the newly established Trauma Reception at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, one of Ireland’s two designated Major Trauma Centres (MTC).
The role involves rotating every three-six months between the main ED and the newly established Trauma Reception—a dedicated three-bay trauma resuscitation area—providing the opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-focused care across both settings. The primary purpose of this role is to enable the nurse to become familiar and competent across all areas of the ED, developing core skills essential for emergency and trauma care. The post holder will be equipped with the skills needed to work in minors, majors, and resuscitation environments confidently and have the opportunity to complete their Manchester Triage Training.
Opportunities for further professional development are integral to the role, including access to the ED Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme and the Graduate Diploma in Emergency Nursing (Adult). Additionally, the post holder will gain specific trauma nursing expertise, with opportunities to undertake trauma-accredited courses to enhance their knowledge and clinical practice.
Throughout the rotation, the staff nurse will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care to the highest professional and ethical standards within the model of nursing care practiced in the hospital. They will ensure that care is delivered per the vision, mission, philosophy, core values, evidence-based practice, and standards of the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
