Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Risk Manager the post holder will;

  • Work with the Risk Manager in establishing a proactive safety management culture
  • Support the delivery of key safety performance measures
  • Contribute to the development of local patient safety indicators for risk activity
  • Analyse risk and incident trends to inform service change
  • Be an effective leader and positive driver for change
  • Understand the challenges of leading complex systems change
  • Have a strong results focus and ability to achieve results through collaborative working
  • Ensure that the risk management function is efficient and effective
  • Ensure that regular risk / incident data reports are delivered in a timely and effective manner to the Risk Manager
  • Analyse and summarise systems data and report on trends to the Risk Manager
  • Support systems and processes for incident management including internal and external escalation of serious incidents
  • Ensure reporting/inputting of all incidents to the National Incident Management System
  • Assist in conducting risk assessments and maintaining the Hospital Risk Register
  • Work with the Risk Manager to develop and co-ordinate risk management programs which support staff to effectively manage, measure and monitor risks in their area of responsibility.
  • Contribute to the further development of systems and processes which ensure that the hospital learns from incidents
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines for risk management.
  • Provide advice on all aspects of risk and incident management
  • Represent the Risk Manager on committees and groups as required
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist in the delivery of systems analysis reviews
  • Demonstrate pro-active commitment to all communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the delivery and coordination of the Risk Management schedule of training
  • Carry out any appropriate duties as assigned by the Risk Manager

General

  • Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etcand comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role.
  • To support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service.
