The Role:

The Asset Management and Sustainability area is responsible for the development of asset policies, strategies and plans to determine the significant investment required into Ireland’s infrastructure. The area drives investment and the Sustainability and Innovation agenda for the organisation and leads on Environmental Regulation and Compliance activities, ensuring the quality of water and wastewater is continuously monitored. The Asset Management function is responsible for strategic planning, prioritisation, and development of Uisce Éireann’s Capital Works pipeline. The function plays a key role in promoting collaboration and co-ordination of activities across the three asset functions as well as providing environmental assessment and management expertise across Uisce Éireann.

The Asset Planning team is accountable for the timely delivery of essential, value for money water services Infrastructure for Ireland. The scope of the team's responsibility covers 5 main areas: Housing Growing, Capex Pipeline, Risk Maintenance and Safety, Critical Assets and Leakage.

Reporting to the Wastewater Network Performance Manager, the Wastewater Modelling Technical Lead will be responsible for the technical management of wastewater network performance assessments and network designs for wastewater modelling projects undertaken nationally by Uisce Éireann and others working on behalf of Uisce Éireann. The role holder will provide technical leadership on industry best practice in relation to wastewater network hydraulic modelling, model auditing and model maintenance. The role holder will be required to work closely with internal teams, Local Authorities and external stakeholders where necessary.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for providing industry technical leadership and approval in relation to the development of national wastewater network hydraulic modelling, model maintenance and survey standards to ensure reliable reporting of current and future system performance
  • Responsible for the technical management, governance and delivery of Uisce Éireann’s hydraulic wastewater network modelling programme nationally
  • Responsible for providing detailed technical guidance, followed by review, for the hydraulic modelling processes employed in the design of wastewater network infrastructure to remove/alleviate identified performance risks 
  • Responsible for ensuring delivery of processes by Uisce Éireann including model predicted performance on network capacity, levels of service, structural and growth risk assessments. This includes undertaking internal stakeholder engagement with Customer, Operations, Support Services, Asset Intelligence, Workflow, Insurance and Legal Teams
  • Responsible for providing models and technical responses to the Connections and Developer Services Team by assessing network performance and defining solutions & asset needs for planned/potential large development connections 
  • Responsible for the review and auditing of wastewater network hydraulic models undertaken by external service providers on behalf of Uisce Éireann 
  • Provide technical assistance with respect to planning asset maintenance and developing contingency plans 
  • Support new initiatives within the field of wastewater hydraulic modelling as required and directed by the Wastewater Networks Performance Manager 
  • Perform other such duties in relation to work and asset management as Uisce Éireann may reasonably require 

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business, including but not limited to; 
  • Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards. 
  • Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives.
  • Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant third level qualification and or accreditation is desirable and or relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the water, utilities or similar industries is desirable.
  • Experience of urban drainage systems design (including hydraulic modelling) and operation is desirable
  • Experience of hydraulic modelling and data systems – such as InfoWorks ICM, InfoAsset Manager, GIS, modelling or analytic software relating to wastewater, utilities or similar industries is desirable
  • Highly motivated individual, working to the highest professional and ethical standards with proven ability to deliver results 
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to identify and analyse problems and potential improvements, and propose and implement solutions
  • Demonstrate adaptability and the ability to change focus and direction in line with business strategy and requirements.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective strategic partnerships with key stakeholders internally and externally and offer guidance and support to make the right decisions 
  • Proactively identifying new areas of improvement and using newly gained knowledge and skill on the job.
  • Experience in managing end-to-end processes to ensure delivery meets customer expectations
  • Skilled in continuously reviewing safety practices and suggest ways for improvement
