WGH Clinical Nurse Specialist, Bowelscreen

The CNS (Bowel Screen) will work closely with the Endoscopy nurse team, BowelScreen RANP, Consultants and Scheduled Care manager.

The BowelScreen CNS will be responsible for: ·

  • Undertaking patient assessment and co-ordination of care ·
  • Supporting access to screening for individuals who need extra support.

The purpose of this Clinical Nurse Specialist(Bowel Screen ) post is to:

  • Deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse Specialist Posts, 4th edition, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) 2008.

Clinical Nurse Specialist (BowelScreen) will focus on providing expert and timely care to BowelScreen participants. The BowelScreen CNS will deliver care to these patients from pre-assessment, colonoscopy, CT colonography and/or cancer treatment if required Key aims of the post are; ·

  • To provide specialist care, in-service planning, co-ordinating and managing activity through the use of international evidence-based standards and guidelines, including the current BowelScreen Standards for QA in Colorectal Screening 3rd Edition. ·
  • To contribute to the development of a patient centred screening service, through close collaboration with the patient and other health care professionals, to the improvement of the health care experiences and outcomes for patients referred for a colonoscopy through BowelScreen. ·
  • To help develop a seamless screening service through close liaison within the endoscopy department and with primary care services, histopathology laboratories, radiology departments and cancer treatment services (including NCCP designated cancer centres).
  • To improve patient outcomes through education and the promotion of healthy lifestyle through primary interventions. ·
  • To evaluate the quality of service provided through ongoing clinical audit, policy development and patient focused research. 4 March 2025 · Act as a liaison between BowelScreen and the hospital. ·
  • To provide information or reports as requested by BowelScreen.
