The Pathology Laboratory in Wexford General Hospital (WGH) provides a clinical diagnostic service in haematology, blood transfusion, biochemistry and point of care. The Pathology laboratory provides 24/7/365 service for Emergency Department, Maternity unit and paediatrics as well as routine service for 270 acute beds in WGH. The aim of our Pathology lab is to provide a high quality, timely and safe lab services to the patients in WGH. The laboratory works closely with the regional service based at University Hospital Waterford where our consultant haematologist is based.
The laboratory workforce in WGH is highly motivated, working together to deliver a high-quality laboratory service which directly leads to improved patient outcomes and experiences. The team in the laboratory comprises of 1 Chief Medical Scientist, Quality Manager, Point of Care co-ordinator, 3 Senior Medical Scientists, 6.2 Staff Grade Medical Scientists and 3 Medical laboratory aides. The Laboratory is accredited to the ISO 15189 standard in blood transfusion and in the future, we hope to achieve accreditation for Haematology.
The successful candidate will participate in the delivery of a quality laboratory service that supports the clinical needs of Wexford General Hospital’s patients and is consistent with the Laboratory Quality Statement mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the organisation.
