Yard Operative

About the Role

Barna Recycling is seeking Yard Operatives to join our team at Cartrontroy, Athlone. This is a hands-on role within a busy waste and recycling facility, supporting day-to-day yard operations while maintaining high standards of safety, efficiency, and customer service and when required weighbridge operations.

Key Responsibilities

· Direct and marshal vehicles safely within the yard

· Assist customers and contractors with unloading waste materials

· Operate as a trained banksman (training provided if required)

· Maintain clear separation between pedestrian and vehicle movements

· Communicate with the weighbridge, site supervisor, and other operatives via two-way radio

· Ensure all site rules, SOPs, and traffic management procedures are followed

· Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the yard and unloading areas

· Move to designated safe areas during plant or large vehicle movements

· Cover weighbridge operations as needed

· Provide excellent customer service to customers, drivers and site visitors

· Monitor vehicle movements to prevent congestion and ensure safety in the yard

· Provide cover to drive teleporter/360 grab (training provided if required)

Health & Safety

· Adhere strictly to the site Traffic Management Plan and SOPs

· Wear required PPE at all times

· Challenge unsafe behaviour and report hazards immediately

Requirements

· Previous experience in a yard, construction, waste, or industrial environment (preferred but not essential)

· Strong awareness of health & safety

· Ability to work outdoors in a fast-paced environment

· Excellent communication skills

· Willingness to complete training (e.g. Vehicle Banksman, site induction)

· Team player with a responsible attitude

· Basic computer skills for weighbridge operations

· Provide excellent customer service to drivers and site visitors

Desirable (but not essential)

· Banksman or traffic marshal certification

· 360 Grab / Teleporter tickets advantageous

· Experience working around heavy vehicles or plant

· Waste or recycling facility experience
