YAP Advocates come from all walks of life and make a huge difference to the lives of Young People and Families. We welcome applicants with relevant life experience through raising your own family, volunteering and you do not have to have a qualification. We provide training and experience that creates opportunities for advocates to become skilled and experienced at working with young people and families within their community in a strengths-based way.

We particularly welcome applications from people from all communities, who have lived experience of mental health or who have a disability and all genders due to the needs of our client group.  We are an equal opportunities employer. 

About Us

YAP Ireland is a registered charity that provides a needs-led, family support service which uses a strengths-based approach to improve the lives of young people and their families in their community achieving positive outcomes.

The Role of the Advocate:

  • To provide a one-to-one service to Young People and Families for up to 15 hours per week (€15.30 PER HOUR)
  • To build a trusting relationship with young people & parents /carers.
  • To work with young people and families to achieve their goals. To identify and link young people and families with the appropriate community supports. To support young people to identify their interests and support parents/carers with parenting.

Advocates report to Team Leaders and with their support develop a strengths-based, needs-led Individual Service Plan (ISP) with the young person and family.

Advocates Requirements – You need to be:

  • A good listener and a positive role model
  • Available for flexible working hours, evenings and weekends
  • Interested in your community and want to make a difference
  • Have a full driving license and access to your own transport
  • Advocates are required to attend fortnightly supervisions and monthly team meetings

Dublin North

All Areas in Dublin North County and Dublin North City and surrounding areas

Including: Coolock, Ballymun, Finglas, Blanchardstown, Santry, Artane, Beaumont, Donaghmede, Clongriffen, Balgriffen, Baldoyle, Ballybough, Drumcondra, East Wall 

South Dublin/ Mid Leinster - Dublin South City & County, Dublin South-West, Kildare,

Naas, Newbridge, Kildare Town, Tallaght, Firhouse, Jobstown, Kilnamanagh, Oldbawn, Clondalkin, Bawnogue,, Neilstown, Ballyfermot, Lucan, Bluebell, Crumlin, Walkinstown, Drimnagh, Mullingar,

Longford, Laois, and Offaly.

West North east: All areas of Cavan, Monaghan

Including: Cavan town, Monaghan town, Clones, Cootehill, Belturbet, Bailieborough, Castleblayney and Carrickmacross, Kingscourt, Virgina, Clones, Shercock, Bellturbet, Emyvale, Mullagh, Ballyconnell 

West: All areas of Sligo, Leitrim and Mayo

Including: Manorhamilton, Carrick on Shannon, Sligo town, Ballina, Westport, Ballinrobe, Swinford, Claremorris, Drumshambo 

South:

Cork City and all areas of Cork County.Limerick City & County.

All areas of Clare and North Tipperary including Ennis and Thurles.

Waterford City & County and all areas of Wexford.

Successful applicants will form a panel for consideration starting end of and throughout. 

N.B. If you are short-listed you will need to be available for interview between 13th September and 23rd September 2022. 

There is a training programme that you will need to attend which will be delivered in October 2022.
