Youthreach Resource Person
Job Purpose
Youthreach is an integral part of the national programme of second-chance education and training in Ireland. It is directed at early school leavers aged between 15 and 20 years and operates on a full-time, year-round basis. Participation in Youthreach offers young people the opportunity to identify and pursue viable options within adult life and provides them with opportunities to acquire recognised certification.
All staff and learners in Youthreach will participate in the Youthreach Quality Framework Initiative for planning, evaluation, and validation purposes.
The Resource Person, who reports to the Youthreach Co-Ordinator on a day-to-day basis, is a core member of the Youthreach staff team.
YRR325 – Resource Person Working 11 hrs 40 mins per week (8 hrs 45 min instruction, 2 hrs 55 min administration). They are not only involved in direct teaching duties but also work closely with centre management in the overall planning, delivery, and evaluation of the programme.
Key TasksDuties will consist of those appropriate to the position (as set out in C.L. 12/03) and will be assigned from time to time by the Youthreach Centre Co-Ordinator / Adult Education Officer / Director FET / Chief Executive / Deputed Officer. The Youthreach Resource Person will work with the Co-Ordinator and the whole staff to:
Keep up to date with the main curriculum and policy developments (local, national, and EU) in the area of youth education, training, and development, particularly as they relate to their subject area.
Assist in the implementation of a comprehensive and relevant Centre Development Plan for the Youthreach Programme.
Participate fully in the internal evaluation process as set out in the Youthreach Quality Framework.
Meet the statutory requirements set down by QQI, e.g. Quality Assurance, Programme Validation, and Learner Assessment.
Develop and deliver a number of specific learning programmes / courses, in line with programme needs.
Conduct initial, formative, and summary assessment of trainees' work in ways that are appropriate and professional and facilitate achievement of recognised certification.
Assist in the provision of first-line guidance and information to the young people and their parents/guardians, as appropriate.
Contribute to the development of Mayo, Sligo, and Leitrim ETB Health and Safety policies and procedures, and implement these in ways that promote the health, safety, and welfare of Youthreach trainees, staff, and visitors.
Produce high-quality work-related written reports/documents as requested by the Centre Co-Ordinator / Adult Education Officer / Director FET / Chief Executive / Deputed Officer.
Perform a range of administrative duties relevant to the post, as directed by the Programme Co-Ordinator.
Participate in relevant training opportunities and use work activities to enhance his/her own professional development on an ongoing basis.
Provide locally agreed substitution cover for absent staff and supervise trainees as necessary during breaks and at opening and closing of the centre.
Perform other job-related tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the Centre Co-Ordinator / Adult Education Officer / Director FET / Chief Executive / Deputed Officer.
Work in partnership with personnel across Mayo, Sligo, and Leitrim ETB Further Education & Training Service to promote integration and enhance Youthreach provision.
Work in partnership with relevant community, voluntary, and statutory personnel, agencies, and groups in the Mohill area to ensure that the Youthreach Centre is embedded within the local community and meeting the identified needs of young people from that area.
Consult with local stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that will maximise the use of the centre to benefit the young people, their parents, and families.

QualificationsThe Youthreach Resource Person will have:
A recognised third-level qualification.
Desirable:
Qualifications and work experience in delivering Leaving Certificate Applied and QQI at various levels.
The Youthreach Resource Person will have:
Relevant experience of working with young people, preferably early school leavers or in alternative education settings.
Working knowledge of a range of assessment and accreditation systems and procedures; e.g. QQI, Leaving Certificate Applied, Junior Certificate.
Ability, experience, and knowledge of delivering in any of the following areas: Childcare, Culinary Arts, Barbering, Electrical / Mechanics, Painting / Construction, Physical Education / Science.
A working knowledge of a range of teaching and learning methods and approaches appropriate to early-school leavers.
The Youthreach Resource Person will be highly competent in:
Working as a member of a team.
Using Information and Communication Technologies.
Managing a classroom.
Facilitating groups of learners.
The Resource Person will have:

As per the Department of Education directives.
This is a part-time post: 11 hrs 40 mins per week (8 hrs 45 min instruction, 2 hrs 55 min administration), excluding breaks.
The post holder shall not engage in any gainful occupation that impairs performance of duties or conflicts with MSLETB interests.
The successful candidate shall serve a probationary period in accordance with MSLETB’s Probationary Policy.
Salary is fully inclusive and determined as per DE guidelines.
New appointees start at the minimum point of the scale.
Incremental credit may apply only if the appointee is already a serving Civil or Public Servant.
Pay is subject to adjustment based on Government policy.
Paid on a pro-rata basis during certified sick absence, per legislation and Department of Education circulars.
Youthreach Centre in Mohill, Co Leitrim.
Transfers are subject to TUI/IVEA Transfer Agreement.
Appointment must be taken up within 6 weeks, or the offer may be withdrawn.
Expenses and subsistence allowances paid per Civil Service regulations.
Varies depending on PRSI Class (A or D), employment start date, and pension scheme membership. Includes contributions to:
MSLETB pension
Spouses and Children Scheme
Single Public Service Pension Scheme (if applicable)
New entrants post-Jan 2013: retirement at 66, compulsory at 70.
Non-new entrants: minimum retirement age 60.
Pension accrual capped at 40 years.
Pension abatement applies if already receiving a Civil/Public pension.
Early retirees, VER/VRS participants, and those covered under the Collective Agreement must meet re-employment eligibility conditions.
