Youthreach Resource Person
Job Purpose
Youthreach is an integral part of the national programme of second-chance education and training in Ireland. It is directed at early school leavers aged between 15 and 20 years and operates on a full-time, year-round basis. Participation in Youthreach offers young people the opportunity to identify and pursue viable options within adult life and provides opportunities to acquire recognised certification.
All staff and learners in Youthreach participate in the Youthreach Quality Framework Initiative for planning, evaluation and validation purposes.
The Resource Person reports to the Youthreach Co-Ordinator on a day-to-day basis and is a core member of the Youthreach staff team.

Working hours: 11 hours 40 minutes per week
- 8 hours 45 minutes instruction
- 2 hours 55 minutes administration
The Resource Person is involved not only in direct teaching duties but also works closely with centre management in the overall planning, delivery and evaluation of the programme.
Key TasksDuties will consist of those appropriate to the position (as set out in C.L. 12/03) and will be assigned from time to time by the Youthreach Centre Co-Ordinator, Adult Education Officer, Director FET, Chief Executive or Deputed Officer.
The Youthreach Resource Person will work with the Co-Ordinator and the entire staff team to:
- Keep up to date with curriculum and policy developments at local, national and EU level in youth education, training and development, particularly within their subject area.
- Assist in implementing a comprehensive and relevant Centre Development Plan for the Youthreach Programme.
- Participate fully in the internal evaluation process as set out in the Youthreach Quality Framework.
- Meet statutory QQI requirements, including Quality Assurance, Programme Validation and Learner Assessment.
- Develop and deliver specific learning programmes and courses in line with programme requirements.
- Conduct initial, formative and summative assessment of learners' work in a professional manner to support achievement of recognised certification.
- Assist in providing first-line guidance and information to young people and, where appropriate, their parents or guardians.
- Contribute to the development of Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB Health and Safety policies and procedures and implement these to promote the health, safety and welfare of Youthreach learners, staff and visitors.
- Produce high-quality work-related reports and documentation as requested by the Centre Co-Ordinator, Adult Education Officer, Director FET, Chief Executive or Deputed Officer.
- Perform administrative duties relevant to the post as directed by the Programme Co-Ordinator.
- Participate in relevant training opportunities and continually develop professional knowledge and skills.
- Provide locally agreed substitution cover for absent staff and supervise learners during breaks and at the opening and closing of the centre where required.
- Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time by the Centre Co-Ordinator, Adult Education Officer, Director FET, Chief Executive or Deputed Officer.
- Work collaboratively with personnel across Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim ETB Further Education and Training Service to promote integration and enhance Youthreach provision.
- Work in partnership with relevant community, voluntary and statutory organisations throughout County Leitrim to ensure the Youthreach Centre is embedded within the local community and responds to the needs of local young people.
- Consult with local stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that maximise the use of the centre for the benefit of young people, their parents and families.

QualificationsThe Youthreach Resource Person will have:
- A recognised relevant third-level qualification.
- Qualifications and experience delivering Science at Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) and QQI modules.
- Experience delivering QQI and Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) programmes.
- Experience teaching Science at Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) and QQI modules.
- Relevant experience working with young people, preferably early school leavers.
- Working knowledge of assessment and accreditation systems, including:
- Working knowledge of teaching and learning approaches appropriate for early school leavers.
The Youthreach Resource Person will demonstrate competence in:
- Working effectively as part of a team.
- Using Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).
- Classroom management.
- Facilitating groups of learners.
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Commitment to an adult education model.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- High levels of motivation, flexibility and creativity.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent organisational skills.
Employment will be in accordance with Department of Education and Youth directives.
The OfficeThe normal working week is 11 hours 40 minutes, comprising:
- 8 hours 45 minutes instruction.
- 2 hours 55 minutes administration.
The holder of the office shall not engage in any other gainful occupation, other than employment with MSLETB, where it would:
- Impair the performance of their duties.
- Conflict with the interests of MSLETB.
- Be inconsistent with the proper discharge of their duties.
The successful candidate will serve a probationary period in accordance with the terms set out in the MSLETB Probationary Policy.
SalarySalary will be fully inclusive and determined from time to time.
Holders of the office must pay to MSLETB any fees or monies (other than salary) received by virtue of their office or for services they are required to perform under any enactment.
Salary Scale (Circular Letter 0058/2026):
€38,283 – €68,835 per year
Salary placement will be determined in accordance with Department of Education and Youth Circulars.
Important Notice Regarding SalaryIn accordance with Department of Education guidelines:
- New entrants to this grade will commence on the minimum point of the salary scale.
- Incremental credit may apply only where the appointee is already serving in the Civil or Public Service immediately prior to appointment.
- Salary rates may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy.
- The starting salary is not negotiable.
Salary during certified sick leave, provided there is no evidence of permanent incapacity, will apply on a pro-rata basis in accordance with relevant legislation and Department of Education and Youth sick leave circulars.
Location/BaseThe normal place of work will be Youthreach Leitrim.
Transfers to another Youthreach Centre will be subject to the terms of the TUI/IVEA Transfer Agreement.
Start DateMSLETB requires successful candidates to take up appointment within six weeks of the offer.
Failure to do so, unless an extended period is approved at the discretion of MSLETB, may result in the offer being withdrawn.
Business TravelWhen required to travel on official duty away from home or headquarters, appropriate travel and subsistence expenses will be paid in accordance with normal Civil Service regulations.
Superannuation ContributionsEmployees who become pensionable officers of MSLETB and pay Class D PRSI will contribute:
- 5% of pensionable remuneration.
Employees who become pensionable officers of MSLETB and pay Class A PRSI will contribute:
- 1.5% of pensionable remuneration, plus
- 3.5% of net pensionable remuneration (pensionable remuneration less twice the annual maximum rate of the Social Insurance Old Age Contributory Pension payable to a person with no adult dependant or qualified children).
