The Legal Aid Board is an independent, publicly funded organisation which provides family mediation, civil legal aid and advice and vulnerable witness related services. They are also responsible for the administration of a number of ad hoc criminal legal aid schemes. Following a competition, a Panel will be established from which temporary and permanent positions may be filled in the 12 months following the Panel’s establishment. The competition is confined to positions in Dublin. The salary for Solicitor Grade III ranges from €42,333 to €76,441 via annual increments (which are subject to satisfactory service). Two long service increments, payable after a further 3 and 6 years, bring the salary scale to €78,680 and €81,111 Entry point will be at the minimum of the scale, different pay and conditions may apply subject to Government pay policy procedures. The post holder will work directly with children and adolescents with cancer (Malignant Haematology and Oncology). The main part of this work will be within Oncology and Neuro-oncology. Many patients will be attending long term from infancy to adolescence and the post holder will need to be able to support children across the life span, focusing on supporting both patients and families through cancer diagnosis and treatment (including end of treatment, relapse, palliation and end of life). A key role of the post holder will be to ensure that psychological factors are taken into account in the children’s and adolescents’ medical assessment and treatment. Children and adolescents will be seen on both an in and out-patient basis and every attempt is made to maximise their time out of hospital. Both individual and group work, where appropriate, is encouraged. The majority of the work will be inpatient. The successful candidate will work closely and collaboratively with the National Paediatric Psycho-Oncology Service Clinical Lead and the medical consultants in the NCCS to develop the National Paediatric Psycho-Oncology Service. Attendance at weekly MDT, Psychosocial team meetings and ward rounds is required. The successful candidate will become a member of the Psychology Department and will be expected to contribute to the overall running and development of the department and to attend weekly Paediatric Psychology meetings. International Multicentre Research and Clinical Trials in paediatric psycho-oncology are an essential part of this role. Essential Criteria: · Hold a recognised University degree or diploma obtained with first or second class honours in which psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject or hold a recognised qualification equivalent to above. And · Hold a relevant post-graduate professional qualification in Psychology recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland. Or · Hold a postgraduate professional psychology qualification validated by the Department of Health and Children. Applicants should refer to the Dept. of Health & Children regulations on the Employment of Psychologists in the Health Services, as well as, the PSI Guidelines on Post Graduate Training & Qualifications.
