Clerical Officer
Description The Role The Clerical Officer will contribute to the delivery of integrated, patient‑centred services that enhance the quality of care. Working collaboratively with staff across multiple departments, the post holder will provide efficient, accurate, and responsive secretarial and administrative support. Key duties will include managing correspondence and records, responding to queries, coordinating departmental activities, and helping to ensure that services operate smoothly and efficiently. This role will require flexibility to provide support in different departments as service needs arise, including assisting during periods of high demand, covering colleagues’ absences, and working across teams to maintain continuity of service. The post holder will be expected to develop in‑depth knowledge of the processes and requirements of each area they support, comply with all statutory and organisational guidelines, and uphold high standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times. Contract Type This role is offered as a permanent full-time contract (35 hours per week). Essential Criteria A candidate must, on the latest date for receiving completed applications for the post Obtained at least grade D (or pass) in Higher or Ordinary Level in five subjects from the approved list of subjects in the Department of Education established Leaving Certificate Examination or Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme or Leaving Certificate Applied. OR Passed an examination of at least equivalent standard OR Satisfactory relevant experience which encompasses demonstrable equivalent skills AND Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability and administrative ability), for the proper discharge of the office. Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook). A minimum of one years of experience in a comparable role. Desirable Qualifications and / or experience Knowledge of the healthcare systems. Secretarial course at Diploma level. European Computer Driving License or equivalent. Have completed a Medical Secretarial Training. A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for Clerical Officers from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full or part-time duration may be filled.
