6 month Fixed Term Post Must be registered or eligible for registration on the Specialist Division of the Irish Medical Council The respiratory dept at PUH is well established. There is 1 consultant providing a general medicine and respiratory service for both inpatients and outpatients. Respiratory consultations are seen on the ward at PUH to assist other medical teams. Lung function tests, sleep studies and cardiopulmonary exercise testing is available to facilitate accurate diagnosis on conditions. Weekly bronchoscopy is available for daycase patients and for inpatients. Three outpatient clinics per week take place in the dept. A specialised Oxygen clinic, a sleep clinic and a general acute respiratory clinic. MDTs for lung cancer and lung fibrosis patients take place in conjunction with the respiratory dept at GUH. Weekly radiology meetings take place to discuss complex patient cases. Weekly teaching sessions for NCHDs and specialist nurses take place. Frequent Multidisciplinary meetings occur regarding patient care. PUH is a teaching hospital for Medical, Nursing, Health and Social Care Professionals. PUH facilitates a variety of undergraduate students on placement from UG, UL, TUS, ATU and UCD. It has medical training schemes for Interns, SHO’s and Specialist Registrars. Medical student at undergraduate and graduate entry are on placement from Galway University and University of Limerick. Ballinasloe is the largest town in County Galway. The town has excellent junior and secondary schools and is close to the University of Galway and the Technology University of Shannon in Athlone. The town is served by public transport to the major centres. The area offers an abundance of sports, leisure and entertainment facilities. The town offers easy access to major regional centres of Galway City. Audiologist Clinical Specialist
Audiologist Clinical Specialist Purpose of the Role The purpose of this post is to provide a pivotal role in the co-ordination and delivery of Audiology activities within CHI. In particular, the post holder (under the guidance of the CHI Audiology Professional Lead) will be responsible for maintaining, overseeing and developing all aspects of the CHI Bone Conduction Hearing Implant (BCHI) service. Essentilal Criteria: Candidates must have at the latest date of application: - 1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc (A) (i) Hold the two-year full-time MSc in Audiology awarded by the National University of Ireland, University College Cork at Level 9 on the Quality and Qualifications of Ireland (QQI) framework, which includes a licence to practice clinical audiology in Ireland OR (ii) Hold an equivalent qualification in Audiology awarded in another jurisdiction validated by the Department of Health (An Roinn Slainte) (See Note 1* below). OR (B) Hold the BSc (Hons) in Audiology awarded by Athlone Institute of Technology awarded in 2016 only, at Level 8 on the Quality and Qualifications of Ireland (QQI) framework. OR (C) Candidates currently working as an Audiologist or Audiological Scientist within the Irish Health System must hold: (a) a qualification equivalent to (A) above OR (b) The British Association of Audiologists Examinations Parts 1 & 2 (or its predecessor) OR (c) A qualification equivalent to (C) (a) or (b). AND (D) Candidates must provide evidence of audiological competence relevant to the scope of practice required for the role. (See Note 2* below). AND (E) Candidates who did not complete the required studies through the medium of English must demonstrate their proficiency in the English language through the submission of certification from the International English Language Testing System [IES TS]. An overall score of 7.00 is required with a minimum of Reading 6.5, Writing 7, Listening 6.5, and Speaking 7. AND (F) Candidates must have 5 years’ full time (or equivalent) years post qualification paediatric clinical experience to include: · Independently leading, interpreting the results of and reporting on Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) · Independently programming, fitting and reviewing patients with BCHI’s AND (G) Candidates must demonstrate achievement in the areas of clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, practice development, teaching and research.
