BROTHERS OF CHARITY SERVICES IRELAND – WEST REGION TEMPORARY COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKERS FAILTE COMMUNITY SERVICES, GALWAY CITY & COUNTY JOB REF: 85494 A panel may be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Permanent and Temporary Community Support Worker appointments may be made over the next 12 months within Fáilte Community Services. Location: Failte Community Services is a Community Outreach Programme which provides multi- disciplinary support to Adults with a Mild Intellectual Disability. Many of those we support wish to live independently in Galway City and County, to access education, work/leisure activities and community day services for young adults graduating from school or training programmes as well as those needing support with making informed choices, daily life issues, relationships and health and well-being. The service aims to promote independence through enabling adults to live a full and active life safely in their communities. This is achieved through the provision of therapeutic supports, frontline services and the promotion of meaningful community engagement. We work in on going partnership with people supported by the service and other agencies to maximise the use of community resources. We provide a services which are person centred and individualised, adaptable and versatile in order to respond to the needs of people supported by the service. All the supports are underpinned by our BOC policies and procedures, Personal Outcome Measures, Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015 and HSE Safeguarding Vulnerable Persons at Risk of Abuse. The Role: Community Support Workers Horizon Programme provide a key-working supportive role and assist in the delivery of community support to individuals with Mild Intellectual Disability and sometimes a secondary diagnosis of Mental Health, some of whom may present with behaviours or lifestyles that can be deemed as challenging. This role comprises of mainly one to one working with individuals in the local community or sometimes in their own homes. A vital part of our Community Support Worker role is developing a community profile through; researching the local area, linking with local organisations and clubs, liaising with educational and training bodies and building positive and lasting relationships with all public and private services who assist the individuals we support to live independent lives in their communities. A major focus of the Community Support Worker role will also be encouraging and assisting individuals supported to develop their own life plans based around needs and interests. The Community Support Worker will work closely and inclusively with significant others involved in the individuals life such as family / next of kin and be supported and guided their practice by service social work, psychology, psychiatry and management when required. The Community Support Worker Arts Alive will work in our community based service in Galway City working in an exciting service with people who have a passion for life and for the arts. The team there are looking for a person who “must have a passion for supporting our Rights”, “must at all times Respect us”. They must have a passion for the arts or a willingness to support us in our passion. This includes supporting us in areas developing our independence and support needs so that we can be as creative as possible. Reporting/Responsible To: Senior Staff/Team Leads/MDT where appropriate/Service Coordinator/Service Manager Qualifications/Experience/Skills: Candidates must have a good general education. A recognised qualification appropriate to the field of intellectual disability is an advantage. QQI Level 5 or higher is desirable. Candidates must have a minimum of one years’ experience of working with individuals with an Intellectual Disability. Candidates must have a minimum of six months experience of working with individuals with Mental Health Disability or individuals who display behaviours that challenge. Candidates who will bring enthusiasm, professionalism, confidence and creativity to our services. Candidates must be able to demonstrate flexibility, communication and team-working skills, together with an enthusiasm for the post. IT skills are also required. FCS use online tools for report writing, recording, planning and dissemination of information. Candidates must have access to their own vehicle and hold a full clean Driving Licence (Class B), which is an essential requirement of this post. Candidates from outside the EU must also hold the required permits to work in this area. Fluency in verbal and written English is an essential requirement of this post. Working Hours: Temporary full-time Community Support Worker - 78 hours a fortnight All posts are rostered over a 14 days. These posts are mainly day service hours but evenings and weekend work will be required on occasion. The Brothers of Charity model of service is based on Personal Outcome Measures requiring employees to be flexible in their working hours in order to ensure the provision of high quality services for each individual. Annual Leave: 22 days per annum Remuneration: € 34,036 x 11 increments - € 46, 652 (Max) pro rata per annum. Long Service Increment (LSI) €47,454 pro rata per annum is payable after 3 years on the maximum of the scale. Support and coordinate the applications for Grant funding. 6. Ensure that an appropriate system of purchasing is in operation which includes requisitioning and canvassing of Tenders in line with the St John of God Hospital CLG policy. 7. Liaise, where appropriate, with outside agencies such as the HSE, HIQA, EHO, NHI, insurance companies, legal firms, An Garda Síochána, Government departments etc. 8. Advise the Chief Executive, Person-in-Charge and senior personnel on financial, administrative, operational and human resources matters relating to St Joseph’s Centre. 9. While working closely with the HR Department of St John of God University Hospital, the Operations Manager provides a comprehensive Human Resource service at St Joseph’s Centre. This will embrace workforce planning, recruitment and selection, employee relations, training and development and advice to Senior and Line Management on handling grievances and other processes: (a) Provide advice and support on the organisation’s human resources policies, procedures and practices and to ensure their implementation. (b) Develop and promote a positive employee relations climate and culture within St Joseph’s Centre. (c) Ensure that St Joseph’s Centre complies with current employment legislation, including equality, health and safety. (d) Co-ordinate and participate in the recruitment, selection and induction of all new employees. (e) Ensure that the Staff Induction Programme is evaluated and up-dated periodically. Be fully familiar with the Regulatory requirements of HIQA and ensure their full implementation pertaining to your areas of responsibility. 3. Provide monthly reports to the Person In Charge/Director of Nursing, Chief Executive, Management Team and Board Sub-committees as required. 4. Evaluate and review practices, policies, procedures, processes, guidelines and systems for all operations in the Departments with line management responsibility for, so that they are consistently in line with best practice and industry standards. 5. Working Week 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm on-site. From time to time it may be necessary to work outside of the above, e.g., before 9.00am or after 5.00pm and at weekends. Holidays The holiday year runs from 1st January to 31st December and the annual leave allowance is 30 days. Public holidays will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997.
