Medical Scientist Specialist, University Hospital
Details of the Service The Immunology Laboratory is part of the Biochemistry Department - a consultant led laboratory offering a comprehensive range of diagnostic services and consultation in Biochemistry, Immunology, Endocrinology, and Genetics. The Department provides this service to CUH inpatients and outpatients, to patients in primary and continuing care and for selected tests to associated hospitals in the region. The laboratory is a Health Service Executive (HSE) South installation with links to Medical and Science Faculties at UCC. It also has strong educational links with the MTU Biological Sciences Department. As well as the diagnostic service provided, the laboratory is also involved in teaching both medical science and biomedical science students and is involved in collaborative research work with clinical colleagues. The laboratory is accredited by the Royal College of Pathologists for specialist training in Biochemistry and maintains a Quality Management System which is accredited by the Irish National Accreditation Board against Standard ISO15189:2022. The laboratory is constantly evolving, exploring and adopting new technologies and platforms to address user needs and exceed user expectations. It is expected that all staff would engage with and embrace such new technologies. There is an extensive Immunology laboratory service at Cork University Hospital. The operation of the Immunology laboratory depends on a rich and fruitful interaction between clerical, scientific, clinical and nursing staff, as well as close links with third level institutions. The successful candidate will work as part of a dynamic scientific team in the Immunology Laboratory and will engage with Laboratory staff of all grades, Consultants governing the Immunology Laboratory, Laboratory Management & various Clinical teams as part of their duties and responsibilities. Purpose of the Post · The Specialist Medical Scientist Immunology (SMSI), in co-operation with the Consultant staff and the Chief Medical Scientist (Immunology), is responsible for oversight of all Immunology platforms and methodologies in the laboratory. · Keep up to date with revised guidelines and developments in the area of expertise and implement current breakpoints and expert rules. · To direct best practice in the Immunology laboratory. · While the primary role of this post is to manage and direct the SMSI function, the individual may be required to undertake scientific roles as directed by the Chief Medical Scientist. Details of service Linn Dara Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) the HSE CAMHS service for children and adolescents aged up-to the age of 18 years of age across Dublin- South City, West ,South West and Kildare West Wicklow, who are experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties. The service is delivered in line with the CAMHS Clinical Operational Guidelines 3rd edition 2025. Linn Dara CAMHS service currently has: The service has strong academic links with Trinity College Dublin. Linn Dara has its own dedicated management structures, with leads for all the disciplines within the service. Together with dedicated managerial and administrative resources this supports the ongoing planning development of the service. There is a particular emphasis on workforce planning, training and service. In our 2024 staff survey, employees in Linn Dara CAMHS reported a high satisfaction rate with regards to; learning new skills (93.6%); working well as a team (92.3%); accesses to training (80.7%); and excellent line management support (82.6%). Our qualitative analysis of the survey also revealed the Linn Dara teams highly rate working with families and young people attending our services, and “feel proud to be part of their healing journey”.
Clinical Nurse Manager, Intensive Care Unit
Job Purpose: The Intensive Care Unit CNM2 will be responsible for working with all members of the multidisciplinary team, including the Directorate Nurse Manager, CNM3, Director of Nursing, Clinical Director, and Intensivists, along with all interdisciplinary team members, to provide safe, quality, and patient-centred care for patients admitted in the intensive care unit. In managing the ICU, the CNM2’s role will be essential in providing coordination and management of all nursing and delegated activities, as well as the allocation and management of resources within the unit associated with this activity. The CNM2 will support nurses and HCAs' educational and professional development in relation to providing opportunities for development of skills, access and support to facilitate ongoing education, and support the expanding nursing role within the critical care speciality to enhance patient care and experience.
