Open Access Monitor Officer

The Role Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued. The University is host to the the shared national service, the Irish Research e-Library (IReL). IReL provides member institutions access to a wide range of research information resources, open access publishing services and open research infrastructure. IReL is seeking to appoint an Officer to oversee the further development and operation of the National Open Access Monitor and to provide coordination support to Open Repositories Ireland (ORI), an organisation dedicated to supporting the development of repositories and repository staff. A robust network of repositories is key to developing a trustworthy national monitor for open access. Principal Duties Lead the operation and development of the National Open Access Monitor: • Liase with OpenAire on the the day to day running of the monitor and development requirements and run the local helpdesk • Report to the Monitor Advisory Group on progress of the Monitor and gather feedback on potential developments • Engage with stakeholders to encourage uptake and integration of the Monitor into local workflow • Stay up to date with national and international developments in Open Science Monitoring and promote the Irish OA Monitor as an international exemplar • Draft and manage Monitor documentation on Zenodo Provide coordination support for Open Repositories Ireland: • Act as the primary coordination point for ORI, supporting community conveners, working groups, and project partners • Organise ORI community meetings, training sessions, and collaborative activities in alignment with national repository priorities • Facilitate communication across the ORI network via mailing lists, team sites, and shared resources • Maintain and update ORI documentation, including guidance materials, repository implementation updates, and event records • Support alignment between ORI and related national initiatives such as the Open Access Monitor, SCOIR, and other NORF-funded projects • Assist with the preparation of summary reports and outputs from ORI-led initiatives The ideal candidate will have: Essential • A Masters in Library and Information studies or equivalent professional qualification • Demonstrable knowledge of policies and practices related to open research and research infrastructure • Experience in coordination or support roles involving stakeholder engagement and collaborative networks • Proven ability to work on own initiative, to manage several issues simultaneously, to meet strict deadlines • Project management skills and experience • Excellent IT skills • The ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail • Well-developed interpersonal and oral and written communication skills Desirable • A project management qualification • Experience working in research libraries or within scholarly communications • Familiarity with repository platforms (e.g. DSpace, EPrints) and metadata standards (e.g. Dublin Core, OpenAIRE) IReL IReL is a consortium of Irish research libraries. Established in 2004, it provides participating member institutions with access to a wide range of licensed e-resources, open access publishing agreements with over twenty publishers, and open science infrastructure.
