Overall Role and Context South East Technological University (SETU) wishes to recruit an Assistant Staff Officer to support in Academic Timetabling . The role is integral to the proper administration function of the Academic Administration and Student Affairs Office. Working with Heads of Department and the Faculty Offices, the successful candidate will be centrally involved in the administration and processing of Academic Timetabling across multiple departments. This key administration post will be based on the Carlow Campus . SETU is seeking to recruit an Assistant Staff Officer to provide administrative support to the academic Heads of Department in the area of Academic Timetabling. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Heads of Department, the Faculty Offices, and other relevant stakeholders. They will play a central role in the coordination, administration, and processing of academic timetables across multiple departments. This position is integral to ensuring the smooth and effective scheduling of teaching and learning activities, helping to maintain an organised and student-focused academic environment. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Timetabling Terms and Conditions Hours of Work: The appointee will be required to work 35 hours per week together with any such additional hours as may be required for the proper discharge of their duties. Salary: Assistant Staff Officer Salary Scale: €38,217 – €54,367 Annual Leave: 23 days annual leave. Annual leave will be in accordance with arrangements authorised by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science from time to time.

THE POSITION Cork City Council has a vacancy for the position of permanent Craftworker (Carpenter) and will be creating a panel from which any permanent or temporary vacancies arising during the lifetime of the panel may be filled. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and as part of a larger team throughout Cork City. Flexibility will be required in terms of location, nature of duties, and assignment areas, in line with operational needs as directed by line management. Ongoing training and development opportunities will form a core part of the role. Candidates will be required to carry out such duties and follow such instructions as may be issued from time to time by the Senior Engineer or other nominated persons. Duties assigned may vary or be amended in accordance with the operational needs of Cork City Council. The post holder shall not engage in any external gainful occupation that could impair the performance of their duties as a local authority employee, conflict with the interests of the local authority, or be inconsistent with the discharge of their responsibilities in this role. THE ROLE Main Responsibilities The main responsibilities of the role will include: • Carry out maintenance and repairs to Council properties/buildings as appropriate to the post. • Deal with members of the public in a courteous, prompt and efficient manner and to keep the appropriate supervisor informed of such dealings. • Participate fully in any initiatives aimed at increasing quality of service and customer satisfaction. • Participate in training provided by Cork City Council. • Use as directed and upon receipt of appropriate training, information technology equipment, including personal computers, mobile devices and other equipment as may be directed. • Co-operate with their supervisors in the operation of various works programmes by taking a flexible approach to the range of assigned works to be undertaken from time to time as well as any other appropriate duties that may be assigned to them. • Keep and furnish such records and reports relating to their duties as directed by the Council’s Housing Maintenance Manager and/or supervisory staff. • Arrange the supply of materials necessary for maintenance or repair work and to keep appropriate records of same. • Maintain stock levels as required in any council vehicle. • May be required to drive a Council vehicle in the course of their duties and to use whatever mode of communication is provided. • Carry out such work of a manual inspection or clerical nature as may be assigned from time to time. • May be required to work out of hours as part of the Council’s emergency on-call response service. • Operate any existing technology and any new technology pertinent to their duties which may be introduced in the future. • Participate in mandatory Health and Safety training and all other training as required. • Carry out all the duties allocated to them by the Council under the direction and supervision of the relevant Supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POST Character Each candidate must be of good character. Health Each candidate must be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Education, Training, Experience, etc. Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms: (i) Have served a recognised apprenticeship as a Carpenter or have a QQI/FETAC Advanced Certificate Level 6 in Carpentry/Joinery or a National Craft Certificate in Carpentry/Joinery or hold an equivalent qualification and documentary evidence in support of that, to the satisfaction of the Local Authority (ii) Equivalent qualifications may be considered, subject to verification and recognition by the relevant Irish authority (e.g. QQI). (iii) Have a minimum of five years post qualification experience. (iv) Each candidate must have a current Safe Pass registration card prior to taking up appointment. Driving Licence Holders of the office may be required to drive a car in the course of their duties and therefore are required to hold a full driving licence for class B vehicles free from disqualifications. Desirable Skills • Be able to demonstrate a strong ability in the following areas – Delivering Quality Work and Services, Personal Effectiveness and Safety, Health, and Welfare at Work. • Have a knowledge and understanding of health and safety legislation and procedures as they apply to the role of carpenter. • Have relevant experience in working in local authority housing or domestic housing installations or similar. • Have a capability or aptitude for computer-based systems (e.g. email, Word, Excel, etc. and CRM or similar systems) or, if not, to be willing to undertake any necessary training or up-skilling required. • Have experience of interacting effectively with members of the public. • Have a satisfactory understanding and awareness of Health and Safety in the workplace. • Be able to demonstrate flexibility and the ability to react quickly and effectively in response to service requirements. • Be able to work under their own initiative and problem solve. • Have good written and verbal communication skills. SALARY Remuneration will be at the Craftworker scale of the national wage scales. The present minimum of the scale is €788.63 rising to €908.30 via annual increments subject to satisfactory performance. Entry point to this scale will be determined in accordance with Circulars issued by the Department of Housing, Environment, and Local Government. In accordance with Departmental Circular Letter EL 02/2011, a person who is not a serving local authority employee on or after 1st January 2011, will enter the scale at the minimum point. The wages scale for the post is: Weekly wage: €788.63 – €810.89 – €864.38 – €869.92 – €875.36 – €880.87 – €886.36 – €891.85 – €897.34 – €902.84 – (Max) €908.30 DUTIES In accordance with Section 159(3) & (4) of Local Government Act 2001, an employee of the local authority shall perform the duties of the office and give the local authority, under the general direction and control of the Chief Executive or of such other officer as the Chief Executive may from time to time determine, such appropriate services of an executive, administrative or management nature as are required for the exercise and performance of any of its powers, functions and duties and to exercise such powers, duties and functions as may be delegated to him or her by the Chief Executive from time to time including the duty of servicing all committees that may be established by the local authority and such duties as may be required in relation to the area of any local authority. The holder of the office will, if required, act for an officer of a higher level. PROBATION Where a person who is not already a pensionable employee of a Local Authority is appointed to a permanent position, the following provisions shall apply: (a) There shall be a period after such appointment takes effect during which such person shall hold the post on probation. (b) Such period shall be six months and may be extended at the discretion of the Director of HR Management & Organisational Reform. (c) Such person shall cease to hold the position at the end of the period of probation unless during such period the Director of HR Management & Organisational Reform has certified that the service of such person is satisfactory based on the recommendation of the Director of Services. HOURS OF DUTY The successful candidate will be required to work 39 hours per week. The role may involve out-of-hours work and may include evening and weekend work. Candidates may be required to work reasonable overtime and respond to out-of-hours emergencies, for which appropriate overtime rates will be paid. Holder of the post may be called for duty at any time in accordance with arrangements made by local authorities. The Council reserves the right to alter hours of work from time to time. All hours worked will be subject to the provisions of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997 and the Organisation of Working Time Act (Regulations) 2001.
Customs Officer – Shift Work (Clerical Officer)
The Role Job Description Successful candidates will work as an important part of a busy team, involved in a wide range of interesting and challenging work, which includes facilitating legitimate trade (imports and exports) through ports, airports, and mail and parcel distribution centres, including examining and clearing import/export documentation and physical checks of goods. Additionally, successful candidates may be involved in frontier controls which include risk profiling and intelligence gathering; anti-smuggling measures leading to the detection of drugs and contraband; identifying tax and duty evasion and working in Customs Channels in the ports and airports and on the eCustoms Helpdesk (Rosslare). This role requires attendance on site on a 24/7 (Dublin & Rosslare) or 16/7 (Portarlington & Athlone) rostered basis for which a shift premium is payable. Rosters include night and weekend shifts. Shifts are 7/9 hours in length on a 24/7 basis. Each officer will be rostered to cover various shifts commencing morning (3am/5am), afternoon (1pm/3pm), evening (5pm/6pm) or night (9pm/11pm) over the period of the rota. The roster rota is generally in place for 4, 6 or 9 weeks. See Appendix 1 for a selection of example rosters. Your particular roster will be discussed when you are assigned to an operational area. Over time, successful candidates may have the opportunity to compete for other customs roles which are also an integral part of Revenue’s overall frontline tax and customs trade facilitation and compliance management framework, such as Revenue Dog Handler, a member of one of Revenue’s Customs Cutter crews or opportunities in the wider Revenue. The work is varied, personally rewarding, challenging, and sometimes physically demanding, with a combination of indoor and outdoor duties, including driving (as applicable), carried out at Revenue premises and other premises. Enforcement and/or Trade Facilitation duties, for which appropriate training, mentoring and management and supervisory support will be provided, may include, but are not limited to, the following: Pay Shift Premium Payment Staff appointed to Customs Shift Work will receive a starting salary of €30,690.92. In addition to this Clerical Officer basic pay a 25% shift premium is payable for attendance on a 24/7 shift pattern in Dublin and Rosslare, increasing the starting salary to €38,363.65, and a 16% shift premium is payable for attendance on a 16/7 shift pattern in Athlone and Portarlington, increasing the starting salary to €35,601.47.
