Medical Scientist, Senior Haemotology
· The Senior Medical Scientist in cooperation with the Chief Medical Scientist will be required to provide a quality diagnostic service in Haematology within the multidisciplinary laboratory ensuring that the requirements of the users of the service are met. · The Senior Medical Scientist will be responsible for training, maintenance and development in Haematology · This post also requires input into the maintenance and development of laboratory IT systems for the laboratory · The postholder may be required to deputise for the Chief Medical Scientist during their absence. · The postholder will be required to deputise for the Haemovigilance Officer · The postholder will be required to participate in a multi-disciplinary Saturday roster. Pathology · Demonstrate evidence of the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of general laboratory medicine within the hospital setting. · Experience in Biochemistry is desirable as this is a multidisciplinary laboratory. Haematology: · 4 years’ experience in a hospital haematology laboratory · Demonstrate an excellent understanding of general Haematology with competency in routine haematology and coagulation. · Demonstrate experience and competency in blood film morphology reporting, training and EQA. Haemovigilance: · Previous experience in blood transfusion and traceability is desirable. IT: · Demonstrate an understanding and interest in Laboratory Information Systems and interfaces. Other: · Experience in an Irish Teaching Hospital desirable. Professional Knowledge & Experience · Demonstrate sufficient theoretical, practical, and clinical knowledge to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role and to develop, maintain, monitor and evaluate new and emerging trends. · Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of best practice in delivering a quality laboratory service in accordance with relevant ISO and Laboratory SOPs and experience in Laboratory Accreditation. · Demonstrate evidence of computer skills and a willingness to develop IT skills relevant to the role. · Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
