Motor Mechanic
Kerry County Council’s Machinery Yard is part of the wider Roads & Transportation Directorate and operates out of the Rathass Complex. This Complex has a well-equipped garage, workshop, stores, and secure parking for all plant. The Machinery Yard has a complete range of road-making equipment including rigid body and articulated Trucks, Bitumen Sprayers, Road-Finishing Pavers, Graders, Rollers, Self-Propelled Chip Spreaders, Salting Plant, JCBs, etc. Kerry County Council relies on their Machinery Yard to carry out its annual Road Works and Winter Maintenance Programmes, as well as day-to-day support for the wider Roads & transportation function including haulage, road making, and surface dressing plant. The person employed will be required to carry out maintenance and complete overhaul of all types of existing vehicles including trucks, vans, excavators, pavers, graders, self-propelled chip spreaders, bitumen sprayers, rollers, low loaders, etc. both in the Council workshop and on sites throughout the County. Council Mechanics currently carry out such work on heavy-duty diesel and petrol vehicles and equipment and will also be required to undertake training/re-skilling as necessary to carry do so on any Electric and/or Alternatively Fueled Vehicles introduced to the Council’s stock of plant. The appointee will discharge these, and any/all other duties assigned to them by the Machinery Engineer, Fleet Manager & Workshop Foreman. Appointments: Subject to the availability of suitability qualified candidates a panel will be formed on the basis of this competition, from which both permanent and/or temporary offers of employment may be made. Weekly Wage: €806.10 - €926.96 with annual increments payable subject to satisfactory overall performance, attendance, etc. Offers of appointment to persons who are not serving local authority employees will be based on the minimum of this scale. Where the person being appointed is a serving local authority employee, normal starting pay rules will apply. An annual Craftworker Tool Allowance of €888 per annum is also payable. Annual Leave: 25 days per annum Hours of Work: While the normal working week will constitute 39 hours, the appointee will be required to work the hours directed by the Chief Executive of Kerry County Council, which will include hours outside of the normal working day associated with the responsibilities and requirements of the post. It is understood that there will be occasions outside of normal working hours when the person employed will make themselves available to assist in dealing with special circumstances, and to take appropriate action in any emergency. The Council requires that the carrying out of such duties be in a spirit of co-operation and good-will. Possession of a driving licence in respect of Category C Vehicles is also desirable, though applicants may be considered for employment without holding same subject to requirement that they will on employment commit to undertaking the required training/testing to obtain such a licence within a specified timeframe.
