General Laboratory Assistant

Galway. We are currently seeking motivated individuals to join our team as General Laboratory Operators with an immediate start. Duties / Responsibilities (non-exhaustive list): · Follow safety rules and practices at all times. · Wear protective equipment specified for each task. · Advise Supervisor if you see anything suspicious or potentially hazardous or if you see possibilities for improvement. · Perform work as per assignment given by the Laboratory Manager or other supervisor. Report completion of the work. · Follow written methods and procedures when carrying out work. When written instructions are not available follow oral instructions given by the Laboratory Manager or other Supervisor. · Check and maintain order of the samples being processed and samples identification. Report any deviations to the Laboratory Manager or other Supervisor. · Handle the samples so as to preserve their identification and prevent their loss, contamination or confusion. Report any accidents to the Laboratory Manager or other Supervisor. · Monitor quality of work being performed, make notes of any anomalies, e.g. reactive samples, boil overs and incomplete dissolution. Report to the Laboratory Manager or Supervisor if necessary. · Fill in appropriate forms and worksheets and sign/initial records. · Operate equipment according to instructions/manuals and follow safety rules at all times. If applicable (e.g. balances, dispensers, dilutors) check calibration status of the equipment daily or before use. Report any anomalies/deviations in equipment performance to the Laboratory Manager or Supervisor. Do not use equipment that is out of order, misbehaving or giving suspicious results. Perform routine maintenance of the equipment (e.g. lubrication, changing/cleaning parts) as per equipment manuals/instructions. Keep equipment and workplace clean. When work is finished, tidy up the work area, clean equipment used and get everything ready for the next use. · Bring considerations regarding possible method or operation improvements to the Laboratory Manager or Quality Manager. · Complete all required records as per ISO 17025, INAB requirements and the laboratory’s quality management system. Experience & Expertise: Generally, none required as full training is provided, however previous laboratory experience is desirable. Qualification & Training: Full or partial secondary education with the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. An interest in working outdoors in a physically challenging environment is necessary, with a good head for heights, while keeping fit and learning new challenges in a continually changing environment – as every tree is unique in its own right. Arborists manage trees, hedgerows and shrubs. The work is undertaken in both rural and urban settings and includes all aspects of felling, pruning, thinning, rigging, section felling, preserving, planting and protecting trees, sometimes using heavy equipment. They also provide information and advice on specific tree-related issues. There is an increasing focus on maintaining a safe relationship between the trees, their immediate environment and the general public. The role of the Arborist is to carry out any required arboriculture works in a correct manner that meets the objectives in its environment and to industry standards. The arborist should possess the skills that enable him/her to carry out such work in a manner that doesn’t put them, their crew, or the general public at risk, nor cause damage to existing structures, while meeting required standards. ABOUT THE COMPANY Larry Byrne Engineering Ltd is a leading engineering company who specialise in the design and manufacturing and repairs of livestock bodies, drag trailers and all commercial bodies. We are a small company with ten staff, working together. APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM Larry Byrne Engineering Ltd we offer a wide range of training programmes, working on different machinery, vehicles and plants. The apprenticeship consists of four on the job phases with Larry Byrne Engineering Ltd and three off-the job training phases in accordance with Solas scheduling system. WHAT IS METAL FABRICATION The skills are wide and varied, skills such as measuring, marking out, cutting and welding materials. Learning how to use, care and safety operate machinery and equipment ie: Press Brake, Guillotine, Drills, Cutting etc... Welding mild steel, Aluminium , Stainless Steel, Making a livestock body from start to finish, repairing a trailer, repairing agriculture machinery and the odd unusual item. All metal fabrication will be trained in the following, working with a variety of specialised tools: Lather, Milling Machine, Grinders etc.. Assembling new machinery, dismantling repairs/make & fitting of new parts, report writing of completed work. PAY We pay all our apprentices the recommended wage set by the ETB. Review it after 3 months (A well adjusted candidate will be offered above the recommended wage.) A training allowance paid by the local ETB while the apprentices attending the off-the job training. REQUIREMENT Junior Certificate must be completed Must be 16 years old or older Good communciation skills Ability to work as part of a team to enrol in our apprenticeship program.
