Date: July 2025 MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB To be responsible for carrying out a range of horticultural and grounds maintenance service tasks within all Parks & Open Spaces locations identified by the line manager either individually or as part of a team. To ensure effective communication with site users, other members of the team and line management. Assist in the community development of the Parks & Open Spaces Service through initiatives that engage the community within the Borough. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Service Delivery 1.1. Maintain the condition of parks, playing fields and other open spaces including all labour associated with grounds maintenance operations. 1.2. Transport machinery and equipment including a wide range of materials to various locations in execution of laid down programmes of horticultural maintenance work. 1.3. Operate a wide range of powered hand tools and pedestrian powered machinery including grass cutting, hedge cutting, pruning works and disposal of all clippings at designated locations. 1.4. Carry out inspections and cleaning of play parks to the required industry standard and make safe any defects found in play equipment and surfaces and record and report all defects to the Line Manager or other appropriate officer. 1.5. Carry out labour associated with soil cultivation, site preparations, construction, planting and maintenance including assist in design of planting schemes when necessary. 1.6. Carry out a wide range of maintenance works involving marking out, spiking, scarifying, topdressing, fertilising, turf laying, seed sowing, sweeping, sanding and erection and dismantling of posts within the Council’s football, rugby and synthetic sports ground facilities. 1.7. Undertake a range of fine turf works involved in maintaining a high standard development and maintenance throughout Council owned fine turf locations such as golf greens, bowling greens and cricket ground areas. 1.8. Operate/drive a wide range of motorised vehicles and other types of specialised horticultural machinery involved in the day-to-day operations of the Service including vans, tipper vans, Land Rovers, towing trailers, ride-on lawnmowers, forklifts and tractors & tractor operated / mounted machinery, etc. 1.9. Undertake operations involving the use and application of a wide range of pesticides in control of pests, diseases and weeds by the use of Knapsack/CDA/tractor sprayer, granular applicator and ensure compliance in recording of chemical usage in accordance with relevant legislation and identification of a range of pests, diseases and weeds. Carry out environmental risk assessments as part of these duties. 1.10. To carry out skilled horticultural / arboriculture operations after carrying out all necessary risk assessments and maintain a wide range of plants, trees and shrubs. 1.11. To maintain all horticultural tools and machinery in a satisfactory condition including light maintenance, i.e. fitting of spark plugs, blades, setting up and cleaning of equipment. 1.12. Erect and dismantle equipment for events held throughout the Borough including various types of public safety barriers ensuring safety of the general public. 1.13. To assist in the training, instruction and direction of staff and volunteer placements with special consideration to Health & Safety of staff, public and agency workers. 1.14. On occasion the post holder will be required to undertake other relevant duties associated with community events; street maintenance e.g. litter lifting and salting; and cemetery burial operations e.g. manual & mechanical grave digging including shoring, shuttering and backfilling of grave plots. 1.15. Work with the general public in carrying out your daily duties and advise of potential hazards. 2. Quality 2.1. Starting salary will be the minimum of the scale and pay progression will be as per current NICS pay policy. ANNUAL LEAVE AND PRIVILEGE HOLIDAYS In addition to public and privilege holidays, currently 12 days, the annual leave allowance will be 25 days, rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service. WORKING PATTERN The role is full-time, 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday. LOCATION The office of the post holder will be located at Seatem House, 28-32 Alfred Street, Belfast, BT2 8EN. The organisation operates a hybrid working policy, which stipulates a minimum of 2 days per week based in the office. The post holder will be office-based until fully trained and can then avail of hybrid working. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE The postholder will play a key role in developing awareness and understanding of VSS. This is a varied role and will include public relations as well as building digital presence through strong multimedia skills for creating visual content. VSS use trauma informed practices in all communication and stakeholder engagement activity. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Stakeholder Engagement The foregoing is a broad range of duties and is not intended to be a complete description of all tasks. The person must be registered with HCPC [Health and Care Professions Council UK] as a Clinical Scientist. We have an exciting new career opportunity for a Clinical Scientist within our NGS team. Randox has ISO 15189 accredited genomic sequencing facility at the Randox Clinical Laboratory Services unit at the Randox Science Park in Antrim, UK. This laboratory has an Illumina NovaSeq 6000, NextSeq 2000 and MiSeq sequencers, Tecan Evo robotics with accessory equipment such as thermal cyclers, Tape stations, SeqStudio Genetic analyser. The facility also has an iScan high density array equipment. The unit has a range of staff including senior clinical scientists, laboratory managers, team leaders, NGS scientists and reporting scientists, and a bioinformatics team.  Location : Remote, however some travel to our HQ in Antrim, Northern Ireland will be required.  Contract Offered : Full-time, permanent  Working Hours / Shifts : 8.40am to 5.20pm, Monday to Friday, however some flexibility may be required.  The Role: The main purpose of this post is to review and approve clinical interpretative reports, assist in development of new tests, help develop automated reporting systems and assist with other R&D projects. In addition, the person will be expected to provide expert genetic and genomics advice to sales and marketing teams and staff at the Randox Health Clinics.
