Clinical Nurse Specialist, Metabolic
Purpose of the Role Deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse Specialist Posts, 4th edition, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) 2008. Caseload e.g. Children - under 16 years of age. The CNS will focus initially on the following patient groups The Metabolic Clinical Nurse Specialist requires the application of specially focused knowledge and skills, which are both in demand and required to improve the quality of patient care and meet service needs. The post holder is responsible for providing specialist; evidence-based nursing care to children and their families. The Metabolic CNS has a pivotal role in co-ordination and management of activity and services within and outside the clinical area. The main responsibilities include having: a) A Clinical Focus (direct care) b) A Clinical Focus (indirect care) c) Patient Advocacy Focus d) Education and Training e) Audit and Research f) Professional Development g) Consultancy (National Council) The Metabolic CNS must also ensure the provision of a high standard of care to the children and their extended families is consistent with the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the hospital. In carrying out these duties, confidentiality surrounding the child’s admission and treatment must be maintained at all times. Essential Criteria: Be a registered nurse on the active Register of Nurses and Midwives held by An Bord Altranais and Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be eligible to be so registered AND Be registered in the division(s) of the Childrens Nursing with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann OR In exceptional circumstances, which will be assessed on a case by case basis be registered in another Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives.
