They will work closely with all staff in each area to ensure the smooth running of core business plant, maximise the utilisation of machinery and equipment, proactively work to eliminate plant downtime and make improvements to the processes. Overview of the role: The Utilities shift Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, trouble-shooting and replacement of utility systems in the Athlone facility. The successful candidate must enjoy solving problems in a complex ICT infrastructure and will be proactive with broad technical knowledge and skills. This position will involve working with people whose knowledge about IT ranges from novice to expert. You will be required to provide cover for the ICT Operations Manager during varying pre-notified leave times. Being able to prioritise the problems that arise is essential. The successful candidate must weigh each problem for its severity and complexity and then resolve problems in the order that keeps the greatest number of people productive. The appointee’s ability to work with others, both technical and non-technical personnel, is key to this job. Change is constant, so the appointee will always be learning something new. Qualifications/Experience/Skills: Qualifications: The successful candidate must have: • A third level IT or related qualification. • Microsoft Certified Professional certification in current systems is an advantage. • Other accreditations and relevant experience in Information Technology an advantage. Experience: • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role. • Recent experience in a disperse networked environment is essential, ability to setup, configure and maintain WAN communication links over various technologies • Experience with a wide range of hardware including servers, routers, firewalls, personal computers, laptops and printers are essential. • Experience with a wide range of operating systems such as Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, 2025 Windows 10 and Windows 11 is essential. • Required experience managing and maintaining a virtual server environment including shared storage and networking. • Experience in the use of server application software such as Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Exchange Online, Microsoft SQL 2014/2016, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Office 365 and Citrix DAAS is essential. • Ability to work with external suppliers and manage vendor contracts. • Familiarity with telecommunications equipment such as mobiles and VoIP systems. • Familiarity with SAN technology, security appliances and Microsoft cloud technologies would be an advantage. Other skills: • Ability to work with other technical and non-technical personnel. • An ITIL qualification is desirable but not essential. • Must own their own car and possess a full clean driving licence, these are essential requirements of this post • Creative problem solving and research and analysis skills. • Good verbal and written communication skills. • Organisational and prioritising skills and time management skills. Working Hours: 70 hours a fortnight based on a 5-day working week. However, flexible hours including weekends and evenings may be involved. You will be responsible for undertaking various planned and reactive maintenance tasks and will work as part of the Maintenance Team in a varied and fast-paced environment. In addition to the main responsibilities and duties, the Maintenance Technician is required to: •Train other stakeholders, develop SOPs, PM plans and information systems •Carry out PM and breakdown activities, resolving causes of defects for allocated cell/area •Co-ordinate and carry out PM, PdM and breakdown activities resolving causes of defects •Deliver sufficient callout support and handovers to ensure reliability and performance of the plants machinery in line with agreed service levels. The Person Applicants must: Hold a Level III qualification or Hold a Level II Qualification in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering and be able to demonstrate relevant experience gained in a high-volume manufacturing environment Working knowledge and experience working with pneumatics, inverters, basic PLCs Strong experience of mechanical/electrical fault-finding within a manufacturing environment Other features of the job: Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces Flexibility to work a range of shift patterns Take part in on call rota system Working hours - Monday - Thursday 0800-1700 and Friday 0800-1400
