They will also advocate for inclusion and active participation in the community, ensuring access to opportunities that promote social and personal growth. The Support Worker operates within a person centred framework, prioritising each individual’s choices and needs. They will work closely with both internal and external services, fostering a culture of collaboration and partnership, and building strong relationships with families to ensure holistic support. In addition to supporting adults with intellectual disabilities, the Support Worker will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, completing relevant reports, and ensuring all documentation meets required standards. The role includes providing physical, emotional, psychological, and healthcare support, all while promoting dignity, respect, and personal autonomy. They will also facilitate life skills development through hobbies, interests, and activities, teaching skills such as budgeting, cooking, communication, and time management to promote greater independence. The Support Worker will work alongside a range of healthcare professionals to ensure all aspects of care are delivered to the highest standard. Their input will be essential in creating care plans that are responsive to evolving needs, fostering personal growth, wellbeing, and a sense of belonging within the community. Quality and Safety The Support Worker will: • Work within own role, adhering to current legislation, policies, procedures, protocols and guidelines. Adhere to the Health Care Act 2007 Regulations within your work location. • Undertake assigned duties under the direction of the line manager/ team lead in such a way as to ensure that care is of a high standard • Report all complaints in accordance with service policy • Ensure that all records in relation to individuals supported by the services are up to date, correctly filed and managed as per the services records management procedure/ system. • Ensure all actions support the enhancement of a person-centred service and a person-centred culture within the team • Co-operate with quality reviews/ service evaluations and assist with the implementation of any necessary corrective action. Health & Safety: The Support Worker will: • Be conscious of Health & Safety matters in the workplace and, in particular, to comply with employees’ obligations as set out under Section 9 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005. Ensure that the procedures set out in the Safety Statement are implemented at all times. • Become familiar with and practise fire drill procedures within places of work, i.e. fire detection, evacuation and firefighting. • Use any equipment provided in a safe and responsible manner. • Utilise service transport as per the organisation’s Safe Driving for Work procedure. Report any faults as they arise. • Understand and adhere to all relevant Corlann policies, guidelines, and procedures, comply with health and safety, infection control and risk management procedures; and comply with statutory obligations. • Report any accidents, near misses, incident or potential incident to the person in charge which may compromise the health and safety of people supported by the service, staff or visitors and take appropriate action including completion of accident/ incident forms on the online OLIS system (including for near miss incidents). • Only undertake any duty related to individual’s care for which you are trained. • Maintain a strict code of personal and general hygiene in the workplace as per the employee handbook and existing policies and procedures. • Present to work wearing the agreed attire, footwear, and identification, having regard to the highest standard of attire and personal hygiene. This includes not having possession of personal mobile phones while delivering care to people supported. • Conduct yourself in a manner that ensures safe individual care. Participate in maintaining a safe environment for people supported, visitors and staff by ensuring vigilance in identifying potential hazards and by taking the necessary steps to remove such hazards. • It is your duty to report any concerns you have for the safety and welfare of the people we support to your Manager immediately in line with Trust in Care (2005). You are also legally obliged to comply with the Criminal Justice (Withholding of Information on Offences Against Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act, 2012. Education & Training The Support Worker will: • Attend induction and mandatory training, so that you fully understand and work with all the procedures and guidelines within the organisation. Pass assessments associated with training. • As directed, participate in the induction of new staff. • Participate in team based development, education, training and learning. • Participate in supervision and performance reviews in conjunction with his / her line manager. Communication and Teamwork: The Support Worker will: • Operate in accordance with the values of Corlann. These values include integrity and openness, respect and support, caring and loyalty to the organisation (Dignity at Work Policy). • Deal courteously with people supported, their family, with visitors, other staff members, and with anyone whom they come in to contact in the course of their duties. • Demonstrate a range of listening skills appropriate to the context of the person supported, visitor and service-specific situations. Communicate effectively with people supported taking into account their differing levels of ability to understand and their individual communication needs. • Communicate effectively with all grades of staff and disciplines contributing to effective team working; both internally and externally to the organisation. • Respect culture and diversity within the team.
