Walking For All Officer
*** Please read the recruitment pack before completing your application forms *** Reserve List Whilst the Council are recruiting for a fixed term contract Walking For All Officer please note that a reserve list will be compiled for future permanent, fixed term, temporary, full time and part time posts for Walking For All Officer positions across the Council District for a period of 12 months. Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary: To develop, co-ordinate and sustain regular volunteer-led walks in towns, villages and rural communities throughout the Council area, through the recruitment, training and support of Volunteer Walk Leaders to in turn increase the number of people walking and meet the objectives of the Walking for All programme (see note re background to Role), alking For All is a project supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body, (SEUPB). Duration of Appointment: Fixed Term contract from January 2026 to 31 December 2028, subject to funding (this duration may vary if funding concludes earlier or may be extended) Hours of Work: 36 hours Monday to Friday Hours of work are kept under review and may change in order to meet operational requirements, providing requisite notice. Location: Down Leisure Centre, Downpatrick or Newry Leisure Centre, Newry. The post holder may be required to transfer to other locations in accordance with any requirements stated in the Job Description, any reviews of service delivery or other requirements as may arise from time to time. Any amendments made to work location will be implemented following appropriate consultation and provision of reasonable notice. Job Ref 25-336-YO-POM-WEB Job Role Peace of Mind (PoM) Youth Officer Location Southern trust (Armagh, Banbridge, Craigavon, Newry, Mourne, Down) Salary £29,540 per annum Hours 37 Hours per Week (Fixed term until December 2026) Please note this post is funded via the Peace Plus Programme. Continuation of employment beyond this date is subject to funding. The Service The PoM project is a cross community/cross border initiative to address the significant mental health challenges young people including those with a disability, brain injury and autism. The project will support disabled young people in school or youth and community groups to develop strategies, skills and strength, leading to positive mental health and wellbeing. PoM is a fun, engaging, project supporting disabled children and teenagers aged 9-25. The project will provide opportunities to participate in a group-based programme, improve social connections and health & wellbeing. The Peace of Mind project is supported by the European Union’s PEACEPLUS Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). The Role The PoM Youth Officer is responsible for the promotion and inclusion of children and young people with disabilities, autism and brain injury in a personal development project, developing their social and emotional skills to enable them to participate in their local community. They will deliver a mental health personal development programme, develop young peer mentors and facilitate the promotion of Disability & Inclusion Training to local stakeholders, funders and the wider community. They will work in line with quality standards and ensure the project provides a meaningful, fun, supportive and inclusive place for our young people to become motivated and reach their full potential. Essential Criteria RQF level 6 (e.g. Bachelor’s Degree) or equivalent level in Youth & Community, Health & Social Care, Education or another relevant discipline. OR Minimum RQF 4 or equivalent level in Youth & Community, Health & Social Care, Education or another relevant discipline. AND Minimum of 3 years’ paid experience of planning and delivering group based personal and social development programmes for children and young people.
