Radiographer, Clinical Specialist, General Hospital
Bantry General Hospital (BGH) is a Model 2R acute general hospital as defined by the Acute Medicine Programme. BGH serves West Cork & South Kerry catchment area and is open 24 hours daily for undifferentiated medical take daily. Inpatient bed capacity: The service also has a Residential Unit (24) beds (18 Residential, 4 Respite, 2 Palliative). BGH delivers elective day case Surgical and Endoscopy services. Other Services provided: General medicine, Gerontology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Dermatology and Palliative Care and a Medical Assessment Unit, which is the admission pathway for the medical patients, along with and a High Dependency Unit to support inpatient medical activity (4 bed). Injuries Unit, Outpatients Department, Physiotherapy, and Diagnostic services Bantry General also incorporates the unique position of a HIQA Registered residential Unit within the governance of the Hospital.
Student Transition and Peer Engagement Co-ordinator
Salary: The gross salary scale applicable to the post is currently €52,240 - €62,482 p.a. as at 01/02/2026. Hours of Work: The appointee will be required to work 35 hours per week together with such additional hours as may be required from time to time for the proper discharge of their duties. Annual Leave: 25 days annual leave per annum. The ‘annual leave year’ operates from September to August. Annual Leave will be in accordance with arrangements authorised by the Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science from time to time. Overview of Role & Context The Student Transitions and Peer Engagement Coordinator is a multifaceted position focused on the development, implementation, and assessment of peer-led programmes. The Student Transition, Engagement, Progression and Success (STEPS) strategy encompasses both social and academic aspects of the student experience and is influenced by activities inside and outside of the classroom. SETU aim to further expand existing peer-led initiatives across the University and to develop new initiatives aimed at supporting transition and progression and promoting opportunities for social integration. Key Responsibilities / Duties: The post holder will work closely with the Student Engagement team on all aspects of the coordination and delivery of student engagement and peer led activities, with specific responsibility for leading and co-ordinating SETU’s peer mentoring programme (P2P) and other peer-led programmes. The post holder will be required to supervise and allocate duties to other staff within the Peer Engagement team. Duties: • Overall responsibility of leading the P2P programme including: o Continued enhancement, development and delivery of P2P, including mentor training programme and materials, social media platforms, and scheduling of activities o Ongoing review of P2P programme using evidence informed data and student involvement o Continued development of policies and procedures for P2P o Liaise with academic departments on the continued expansion of P2P and to recommend the type of programme is best-fit for the discipline and tailoring of existing programme to meet those needs o Leading the continued expansion and development of the framework for academic accreditation for senior mentors on existing peer mentoring programmes including liaising and supporting academic leads from participating departments throughout the academic year • Work closely with the Head of SLL and the Student Engagement and Retention Officer on the design, development of new peer-led activities and programmes that support student experience including: o Researching best practice within HE o Collaborate with academic departments and leads as required o Developing proposal for implementation of programme(s) o Co-ordinate the implementation of resulting programmes • Support the continued development of StartSETU orientation and the development of new student led orientation activities to take place during semester one and two including developing opportunities for peer/staff interaction during the first semester. Clerical Officers are key frontline people who deliver a range of services to the public and internally within the Council. A flexible working hours’ system is in operation and may be availed of subject to the terms and conditions of the Flexitime Policy. SECTION 9: ANNUAL LEAVE The current annual leave entitlement is 27 days per annum. Cork County Council’s leave year runs from 1st January to 31st December. Naval Service Cadet
What is the Naval Service Operations Branch? Officers of the Operations Branch of the Naval Service are responsible for the efficient running of the ship. It is only from within this Branch that an officer may become Captain of a ship. The Operations Branch Officer’s responsibilities include Bridge Watchkeeping, where they are responsible for the safe navigation of the ship and the safety of the ship’s company. Operations Branch Officers also lead boarding teams in fishery protection and anti-drug running boarding operations. The Operations Branch Cadet will undergo a course of training of approximately twenty-one months duration. Initial training takes place in the Cadet School, Military College, DFTC, Curragh Camp and is of approximately three months duration. Subsequent training takes place in the Naval Base, Haulbowline, Co Cork and aboard ship. This training encompasses both the theory and practical application of the skills required for the Officer to take their place as a fully functional member of the ship’s command team. Subjects covered include Navigation, Seamanship, Gunnery, Leadership and Management. On completion of cadet training, an Operations Branch Cadet is eligible to be commissioned on a 3 year Short Service Commission in the rank of Ensign or Sub-Lieutenant. After commissioning, training continues both at sea and ashore until the Officer is fully qualified to take an appointment on board ship. When fully qualified as an Operations Branch Officer, they may be offered a full Commission without limitation as to time. The fully trained Junior Officer spends the following years on sea/shore rotations. The primary sea duties involve watchkeeping and navigation while shore duties involve training or administrative appointments. The Naval Service Officer can avail of opportunities of further education as well as participating in professional sub-specialisation courses such as Tactical and Naval Warfare Courses at home and abroad.
