Technician Demonstrator

JOB PURPOSE The post-holder will provide technical workshop, salon, and laboratory assistance to lecturers in support of the education and training of students and trainees within all curricular areas. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES • Support lecturing staff before and during lessons by: ➢ Preparing and making available equipment, materials, and tools. ➢ Assisting and supervising apprentices/students during practical and theory sessions, including demonstrating techniques as specified by the lecturer. ➢ Issuing equipment and materials to students in accordance with College procedures. ➢ Monitoring workspaces used for self-directed study. • Monitor equipment and materials to ensure safe usage, storage, and compliance with college policies. • Carry out and/or advise on, within health and safety guidelines, the basic servicing and maintenance of tools and equipment, both portable and fixed, and keep records of such servicing and maintenance. • Keep records relating to the movement of equipment and materials, ensuring effective stock control. • Dispose of used materials in a safe and approved manner. • Ensure that all equipment and work areas are kept clean and tidy to industry standards. • Prepare orders for new and replacement equipment and stock for the Head of Faculty. • Assist with the checking, storing, and distribution of resources. • Liaise with the College’s IT team to ensure the effective operation of media and computer-related equipment within the faculty. • Prepare displays and presentations of work for promotion and assessment. • Test electrical and other equipment in line with College policies. • Advise on health and safety issues in relation to the use of equipment. • Ensure that mandatory and/or statutory checks of materials and equipment are carried out by qualified personnel. • Assist in the provision of a tidy and organised work environment, including maintaining filing and labelled storage systems. • Carry out and keep up-to-date records of risk assessments within the Faculty. • Subject to appropriate training, provide first aid support on behalf of the College. • Provide assistance to administrative and managerial staff as required. • Carry out laundering duties if required. • Participate in staff development and training events. • Attend programme team and staff meetings. • Participate in marketing activities. • Check and record monies received daily if required. GENERAL • Participate in the enrolment cover rota. • Undertake work outside normal working hours on occasions. • Provide reports, written and oral, as required. • Ensure that all documentation and authorisation procedures are adhered to. Eligibility Criteria Essential A minimum of a Level 3 qualification in Media or a closely related area. A pass grade at GCSE Level in English Language or Essential Skills Level 2 in Literacy or an equivalent qualification. A pass grade at GCSE Level in Mathematics or Essential Skills Level 2 in Numeracy or NICATS Access Maths Modules or an equivalent qualification. A minimum of two years (within the last five years) relevant industrial experience. Desirable Criteria A working knowledge of a range of software packages including Microsoft Office suite. Other Essential Criteria The role may entail travel between sites and you are required to demonstrate how you are able to meet this requirement, e.g. whether you hold a full (i.e. not provisional) current driving licence which enables you to drive in Northern Ireland, and a car for official business, or have access to a form of transport which will enable you to meet the requirements of the post.
