Details of Service St Columcille’s Hospital (SCH), Loughlinstown is a model 2 hospital with 117 inpatient beds, 3 medical observation beds, 8-day beds, 9 beds in Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) and 6 in the Injuries Unit (IU). Located on the border of Wicklow it has a national speciality in obesity management and transgender care. In addition to general medicine and care of the elderly services, it also has orthopaedic rehab and stroke rehab services. At present the theatre department runs day case surgery lists in general surgery, pain management, gynaecology and dental. There are plans for the enhancement and expansion of the current lists in line with the Ireland East Hospital Group Strategic Plans for the surgical services within the group. The medical social work department provides a comprehensive social work service to patients of the hospital and their families as part of the multidisciplinary team. The majority of our work is with elderly people and their families. Our work consists of comprehensive psychosocial assessments, appropriate interventions including Fair Deal support and assistance with decision making around Long Term Care. Grief and Loss work with patients and families, adjustment to chronic disease diagnosis and future care planning. We have a high degree of complexity in our work with patients and professionally qualified social workers will be well supported by the seniors and principal on the team. The team consists of Principal Social Worker, 4 Senior Social Workers and 2.5 Professionally Qualified social workers. Reporting Relationship Your professional reporting relationship for clinical governance and clinical supervision will be to an assigned Senior Social Worker on the team and to the Principal social worker.
