The post holder in specialist palliative care will provide a quality Speech & Language Therapy service including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of complex communication and/or swallowing presentations, in persons with life limiting neurological, oncology or respiratory diseases, general ageing and/or other medical conditions, in line with best practice and departmental guidelines. The post holder will work collaboratively with the service user, multidisciplinary team and family to fulfil service user goals related to communication and swallow function and quality of life. The post holder will align the SLT service goals with the objectives and core values of the organisation. The post will include a developmental and educational role within the organisation for relevant service areas, patients and carers, with support from the speech and language therapy manager. The post holder will avail of regular professional supervision. Essential Requirements Qualifications: · Be registered as a Speech and Language Therapist by the Speech and Language Therapists Registration Board, CORU. Practitioners must maintain annual registration with CORU · Successful completion of a Feeding/Eating/Drinking/Swallowing (FEDS)/ Dysphagia education/training programme recognised by the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists. (Applicants with a Speech & Language Therapy qualification awarded in 2011 or after, from one of the recognised Irish universities, have Dysphagia training as an integral part of their qualification. Applicants with other Dysphagia Qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis). Experience: · Have at least three years full time (or an aggregate of three years full time) relevant post qualification adult clinical Speech and Language Therapy experience · Clinical experience in the management of feeding, eating, drinking and swallowing disorders · Depth and breadth of experience of management of swallowing and communication in three of the following: persons with head and neck cancer, persons with non-head and neck cancer, persons with progressive neurological conditions, persons with chronic respiratory conditions · Knowledge of current HSE and HIQA standards and policies in relation to communication impairments and dysphagia management Other: · Full clean driving license Desirable Requirements Qualifications: · Have completed training in videofluroscopy and/or Fibreoptic Endoscopic Examination of the Swallow (FEES) Experience: · Experience or further training/research in Palliative Care · Experience in clinical Speech & Language Therapy in an adult acute hospital or specialist palliative care setting. · Experience working with Alternative/Augmentative Communication (AAC) · Experience working with persons with tracheostomy · Development of clinical standards and protocols. · Clinical audit and evaluation skills.
